I'll tell you what harms society and everybody in it. Not taking care of the poor and children who need food and healthcare. And what you call immoral others may not call immoral. It's all a matter of perspective. If you don't want an abortion, don't get one. If you don't want to marry someone of the same sex, don't. If you don't believe in sex before marriage, fine. Be a virgin. It's really that simple.

Yes, slavery was an evil that harmed all of society. It was eliminated, but not because of religion. Christians used the Bible to justify slavery just as much as to abolish it. It was eliminated based on recognition of basic human rights. I've always said that if pro-life forces want to be successful they should frame abortion as a human rights issue. As long as they insist on making it an issue of religion, they will never succeed in this secular nation.
I never make abortion as an issue of religion. I always frame it as a human rights issue, as does every pro-lifer I know. We never say. "Oh, abortion is wrong because my church says so".

I interpreted that statement as meaning that atheism is morally neutral; that it's simply an absence of belief in God/gods and nothing more, less, or other than that.
