In England, for decades, Saturday night peak time entertainment had shows like 'The Black and White Minstrel Show.' It didn't end until about 40 years ago. Was it racist? Well, I didn't watch it much, so it's hard to remember if it was, or wasn't.
It was just white folks in black face singing. Nice costumes for sure. I remember my first visit to London in 1970, and there was a 'live' minstrel show on stage. These things were very popular. Times and attitudes changed, and they ended. There are a few examples on you-tube. This is one........
How about using a bit of common sense to determine if something is offensive? If it feels offensive then it probably is. If a group of folks says it’s offensive then it probably is too.
There's a thread about Adidas sneakers being racist because they're white.
Point being, someone somewhere will always be offended. It's just the way it is.
Yes but I don't think people should go back 20 years and find a picture of someone wearing black face and make a big deal about it. Sick of seeing people make big deals of stuff people said/did 10+ years ago.
Just wait until moral standards change again, making something that's ok now taboo in 30 years.... and Millennials realize that everything that they've ever said or done being forever digitally enshrined on the internet....
Yes, given the history, blackface is racist. If you want to dress up as your favorite black celebrity for Halloween, you can do it without darkening your skin. You wouldn't need to do this if you dressed up as your favorite white celebrity, would you?
That being said, I think it's reasonable to forgive someone who made this mistake in the past and genuinely feels bad about it and is not showing racist tendencies today.
The ignorance is that people still do not gte that it is offensive and why it is
Oh boo hoo! Someone was offended? Who cares? If each time someone offended another person, they were subject to being fired, shunned by society, or prosecuted for hurting someone's feelings, EVERY SINGLE ONE of us would be fired, shunned by society, and/or in jail.
How can you people not recognize this for what it is? This is the epitome of Cultural Marxism as proven by William Lind. Political Correctness is Cultural Marxism.
Athletes that put black under their eyes or military that black their face with camo paint …. racist?
No, those things are not racist. It would be automatically assumed that camo paint or eye black under the eyes isn't racist. Those things you mentioned have nothing to do with Blackface.

”feel” - couldn’t anyone “feel” something is sexist/racist? What defines a “group” of people? If 20 people find something offense does that meet the standard of offensiveness?
Depends upon the circumstances it is worn in. IMHO.
