Yes, they are. I already gave you an example of how people treat federal income tax the exact same way in salary negotiations when considering whether to accept a job offer. The bottom line... net take home income (or profit, whichever is applicable).

SOOOOOO HAAAPPPPY your rich 1% buddies got a tax break, they REEEAAAALLY need it.

Congrats however, now I know I'm voting for ANYONE but Trump.
well if you made more money, of course you are getting back less: It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that one out. I wonder if it has dawned on you, tax returns are not supposed to happen period. If you set your deductions correctly the idea is to break even at the end of the year and not set things up so you can allow the government to use your money tax free. Would you put a couple hundred $$ a month in your saving account with no interest?

Yes, I was saying that earlier. Charitable donation / church giving etc will take a hit when the incentive is removed, and same goes with caring for elderly relatives. The estimate is that charitable giving is down about $20 billion, and expected to decline even more.

They do add up and there will be negative effects.

It is more than what it seems on the surface.

My Federal Return is over 40 pages....AND, I sold all my former businesses and am retired. I take the standard deduction for the first time in my life. It's still 40 pages.....maybe more.

The 1040 Simplified would just about fit on a postcard. I highly doubt Trump said that everyone would be able to use it. Fact is millions of people will be filing shorter and simpler tax returns which will also ease the burden on auditors. How many pages was your return a couple years ago?

It's a pity, because many services which were funded by voluntary donations, will now have to turn to the government for funding, and if they are turned down, then shelters etc will be shutting their doors.

In short, it will make people more dependent on government services.

Conservatives typically support the idea of charitable giving, but I guess things are changing at a fast rate.

Nice theory. We do support charitable giving. True charitable giving is when you donate simply because you care about a cause and not because you can get the feds to cover 25% of it in the form of tax deductions.

Just finished ours this morning. I expected to get less back (we’ve always gotten a refund) because my income went up a little... but I was not expecting to owe thousands of dollars. My accountant said that the overwhelming majority of his clients owe considerably more.

I guess we’ll have to action off the Picasso or sell the villa in France. Am I winning yet?

Which doesn't mean you didn't get a tax cut.
