U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says an Alabama woman who left home to join ISIS in Syria is not a U.S. citizen and will not be allowed to return to the United States. In a brief statement that gave no details as to how the determination was reached, Pompeo said Hoda Muthana, who said she made a mistake in joining the group and now wants to return with her 18-month-old son, has no "legal basis" to claim American citizenship. "Ms. Hoda Muthana is not a U.S. citizen and will not be admitted into the United States," Pompeo said. "She does not have any legal basis, no valid U.S. passport, no right to a passport nor any visa to travel to the United States."

She is a US citizen, they're just playing clueless because she lost her passport and probably has no way to prove she's a US citizen from Syria.
Even if she does have citizenship I think joining a terrorist organization that has declared war on the United States would be sufficient justification for revoking her citizenship.
And yet it isn't. I agree her status isn't something one can determine though outside of the court system.
Children born in the United States to accredited foreign diplomatic officers do not acquire citizenship under the 14th Amendment since they are not “born . . . subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.” [2] DHS regulations, however, have long allowed these children to choose to be considered lawful permanent residents (LPRs) from the time of birth.

Which passport did she use to travel outside of the USA? Did she have dual citizenship? I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong. I think they're playing clueless - forcing her to produce documents she doesn't have.
Come back to their home countries? Perhaps. Without punishment? Even with they were brainwashed, they should have some sort of punishment like maybe confined to an insane asylum.
