Well... if its an emergency that there are so many illegals living in the US, the first one should be a blanket amnesty!

Emergency or not, undoing the damage done by Individual #1 will be one of the major tasks. For exmple, the mess he made of the tax system is simply a grab for the wealthy and must be reversed. On top of that, Trump ignored real emergencies that just didn't interest him, like Flint's water crisis and the disaster in Puerto Rico, so those need attention. Climate change is a global emergency and has to be a major priority -- it's not an emergency that will go away once we tackle it. It has to be a basic change in how we live on the planet. Gun violence in schools and mass shootings must be addressed within the context of the constitution and that rises to the level of an emergency. Universal healthcare needs to be a legislative priority with a great deal of thought and engagement rather than a quick fix. Too often we opt for a "bandaid" quick fix (like a useless wall for a fake crisis) instead of really investing the brain power, time, and even monetary sacrifice to provide a lasting solution.

How many national emergencies have been called by presidents?
thanks for the link. it actually has decent information. sorry to say the information doesn't back your claim.

Mr. Trump has outlined exactly what laws he is basing the emergency on which is the requirement of the law.

It is purely within keeping with other examples listed.

I don't agree with anything you said but it is outrageous that you suggest school gun violence is an emergency but the southern boarder isn't. MORE Americans are killed every year by illegals than in school shootings.

that doesn't even count the number of people who are robbed raped and beaten by illegals. and that doesn't take into account the huge number of women and girls from other countries that are preyed upon by those they are asking to get them across our southern boarder. they are sold into sex slavery here in the US etc.

to suggest that one thing is an emergency while the other that causes vastly greater suffering is just disgusting.

you seem to be utterly unaware of reality. EVERY president has declared National Emergencies. ALL OF THEM. We currently have something like 33 NEs on the books today. Until Mr. Trump did something you don't like, you didn't care.

bottom line. It is within the constitutional powers of the president to declare a NE. It is codified in law in the 1976 National Emergencies Act. Trump has complied with the requirements of the Act and the Act has clearly outlined what congress must do if they don't agree. Enough agree so that congress will not overturn him. Further, the legal bases is codified in previous laws passed by congress authorizing the construction of additional wall.

Donald Trump has done nothing unique or extraordinary. He has acted to protect both the American people and those who might consider coming here illegally.
