Socialism/Communism doesn't work for any modern society... Your expectations for life is completely incompatible with socialism... It may have worked in prehistoric times but I doubt most people will want to live in caves or hunt their own food anymore... That's why it ALWAYS turns to authoritarinsm because people figure it out and the people in power refuse to let it go...

This is one of those subjects where context matters so much.

Basically all of you are attacking Sanders because he didnt back a dictator who starved his people, killed his political enemies and stole the national treasury.

I have no idea if bread lines are "Better", but this isnt cut and dry as many of you are trying to make.

If you don't know if breadlines are better, go to Venezuela and find out... But I suspect you already know...

Bernie Sanders once said breadlines are good

Quote:
In the video clip Trump Jr. referenced, Sen. Sanders praises the quality of the Moscow public transportation system and that of the city’s cultural undertakings. His wife Jane focused on that latter point, expressing admiration for the manner in which the Soviets intertwined their cultural life with their lives overall, saying that something like performing with an orchestra would be part of citizens’ work rather than something they did completely on their own and would, say, need to take time off for.

Nowhere in the clip do either Bernie or Jane dismiss the issues with the Soviet system. The first part of the sentence Trump Jr. shared — “Sure, Communism may have killed millions of people in the USSR, but” — simply does not correspond to what either the Senator or his wife actually say in the clip.
Also, the context is that bread lines are "less bad" than what was going on in African countries at the time (especially Ethiopia), where the rich were getting all the food and the poor were starving to death - Ethiopia was in a civil war at the time, just like Somaila was in the 1990s to today.

Are you pretending you didnt read the other lines of my post ?

the choices here were.

Bribing a corrupt regime so that you can get food(if you have enough money to do so)

or

standing in line for government issued bread.

I don't even like Bernie, but this is the dumbest thread.

Universal healthcare is not communism.

If you were trying to compare two things in a previous post, you need to check your typing to make sure it actually makes sense.... Bribing a corrupt regime to get food..I'll let you know, no regime wants to lose its slave force... They will give you a breadline... If you don't like that breadline, that's too bad, they are all the same...

It says exactly that. You simply ignored context(which was my whole point) just to attack Sanders.

Lets be clear for people like you who read thread titles and dont even look for context. This is about the Nicaragua Revolution.

The US backed a dictator who was killing his own people and embezzling money.

Sanders backed the people trying to overthrow him.

the Regime had a grip on power, they didnt need to appease the "Slave force", so if you couldnt pay for the high priced food, you died. There was no breadline.

Thats Sanders' point. Further more, those breadlines were created in part by the U.S. because we mined Nicaraguan Harbors and blocked roads, not allowing food to be transported into the country because we supported a different rebel group after the overthrow.

So, you could choose the breadlines of the FSLN or you could let the Somoza Regime stay in power and starve to death.

It's funny these Capitalism cheerleaders always bring up Venezuela as socialist, yet they totally ignore the successful Scandinavian countries, and even the larger EU nations (Germany, UK, France). If the latter are successful social democracies, then all their bleating about Venezuela is irrelevant.

To these most-hard-core-attitude of "freedom" types, "freedom" means (1) the right to dismiss anyone who can't scrounge up enough money to go to trade school or college, even if the area itself has chronically high unemployment and too little per-student funding to support a modern level of education, (2) a hard-hearted sink-or-swim attitude, and utter contempt toward people who can't swim. And that's just the beginning.

I also noticed a lot of these "freedom" types have a really crude understanding of free will (and by extension, personal responsibility). They think the old Nike "Just Do It!" slogan is the complete and final word about "free will" - completely blind to the fact that notwithstanding that in this society, where you are born correlates strongly with where you'll end up (Australia, Canada, and Scandinavia have greater social mobility than the USA does these days). Many factors greatly influence how a person will end up: Internal factors (inate physical and mental talents) and external forces (day-to-day social environment, cultural attitudes, access to greater education and information resources, home environment, even day-to-day treatment) can either help or hinder your march.

This from the start proves that even assuming free will exists, some wills are more free than others. So it's misguided to blame all (for sure) and even "a lot" of poor people for their situation. If that were true, then the rich should blame the middle class for not "workin' hard enough" to avoid those high medical bills.
