He probably feels more comfortable around white people since he is white, but I don't think he is genuinely a racist in the sense that he would enact policy changes that would affect the various races.
He's the type of guy, IMO, who probably hangs out on his own time with mostly white people, but in terms of business and political issues, he wants what's fair for everyone. He doesn't want an uneven playing field.
And in that sense, I think he is no different than most people in his generation, regardless of political leaning.
IMO, red flags begin to go up when actual policy changes are made that positively or negative impact certain racial groups, or when something is said towards a racial group that is outright aggressive or demeaning in nature.
He’s an opportunist. If he has pander to racists to achieve what he wants, he will do it. He doesn’t care what he has to do to ensure he gets his desired outcome.
