I agree with everything you wrote. It shows me that Christians are Christians in name only. Most have likely never even read the New Testament and I'm glad that so-called Christians support Trump, as it only exposes these frauds for what they are.
It is not ALL American believers in Christ who support Trump -- it is the evangelical fundamentalists who want a strong man to dictate control over all Americans. This used to be seen for what it is: Communism. But they have been deceived in their zeal to grab power. I don't think Trump is out of the woods, btw. Watch April for possible surprises.
For the most part it has been my experience that Christians tend to vote for conservatives leaders, not sure if that includes Trump.
In my experience, EVANGELICALS tend to vote for conservatives. Most Christians I know, and I know mostly non-evangelicals, vote liberal because that supports what they believe about taking care of children, widows, welcoming the foreigner and caring for the sick, homeless and prisoners. That is consistent, we believe, with what Jesus would want us to do.
As a Christian, I was lost at mega-church. I've seen some pretty ugly Christians in my time. No one is superior over another.
I have heard pastors preach support for both political parties from the pulpit. There has only been 1 church that I have gone to that has said that even if we don't agree with who are elected officials are, we are to still pray for them. This church was one of the most loving, unconditional, and most accepting churches I have EVER been to.
On some level , I understand why he's saying this.
Democrats voted God out of their platform in 2012
They are the supporters of gay agendas and other perversions
They just voted to take "God" out of the oath of office
They continue to vote against providing saving medical care to a baby born alive from a botched abortion!
They are moving to Socialism......a Marxist ideaology. Marxism is Atheistic at it's core.
So you gotta ask yourself as a Christian. Why am I supporting people who hate the things I believe in?
Pastor Jeffries may feel that way....But you still cant say it nor should you think more highly of yourself than you should!
There are a number of themes in liberal Christian homiletics that can't be defended scripturally.
1. Personhood and the rights of the unborn.
2. Marriage, gender and sexuality.
3. Sovereignty and borders.
4. Property rights and charity.
5. Biblical conceptions of God's 'chosen' or 'anointed'.
I think most liberal Christians know that there are increasing problems reconciling Democrat policy with scripture on the first two issues.
However, many of them genuinely don't seem to be aware of what the Bible has to say on the other three, thinking Jesus to be a socialist, open-border advocate who would never stoop to anointing flawed individuals or sinners. Reductio ad absurdum:
Quote:
"for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,"
I submit that if Jesus favored open borders and illegal immigration, the verse would have to be re-written as follows:
"for I was hungry and broke into your house and demanded that you give me food, I was thirsty and broke into your house and demanded that you give me drink, I was a stranger and forced my way into your house against your will and you welcomed me"
Don't have to wonder why Religious affiliation continues to drop in the USA. Young folks have too much information at their finger tips to believe in silly statements that used to fly in the 80's.
