Looks like rolling out the red-carpet for illegal aliens, refugees and welfare shoppers from all over the world isn't working out very well.

California taxes 10.3% on the 54,000th dollar of taxable income
Wyoming has 0% of the 54,000th dollar of taxable income

Long Beach, California has a 10.25% sales tax

Gillette, WY has a 5% sales tax

Looks like a 1,700 square foot home in Wyoming has only 1,200 dollars of the property tax a year.

You might as well ask: “why an apple is different than an orange”?

You compare apple vs oranges.

California has much higher population (largest in the country), more social benefits and much more desirable state than Wyoming who is virtually unknown even in this country. They run differently and also supply/demand.

Wyoming?

What about North Dakota?

I thought that was the land of milk and honey. No?

Wyoming has always been a net "taker" state -- collecting more money from Washington DC than they pay in.
California is a "donor" state. We pay more in than we get back.

2015
Wyoming, federal taxes paid in -- $5.28 billion source
Wyoming, federal money received -- $8.8 billion source

Why doesn't Wyoming raise their own state taxes so they don't need to take $3.5 billion in federal assistance?
Isn't it time for Wyoming to pay its own way?

Why doesn't California?

In January 2017, the California Legislative Analyst’s Office said by several measures California is, indeed, a donor state, but just barely. It receives $0.99 in federal expenditures per dollar of taxes paid, which is below the national average return for states of $1.22 per dollar paid, according to its review of a 2015 New York Comptroller study.
Quote:
Mississippi had the highest ratio, receiving $2.57 in federal spending per dollar of taxes paid. New Jersey had the lowest, receiving just $0.77 per dollar.

California has the largest state economy in the nation, and very high taxes on the businesses in the state. Personal taxes (income, property, sales) SHOULD be very low, given that huge influx of cash. And there per-capita spending really isn't out of line compared with many other states. https://ballotpedia.org/Total_state_...t_expenditures

The big issue is the large number of people on the receiving end of those expenditures, vs the number paying for them. When you enable and encourage criminal aliens and other deadbeats that constantly take from the taxpayer, while not contributing in return, those that are contributing pay even more.

All those low taxes - - and still the third highest suicide rate in the country. California is 45th. Didn't they know the low taxes were supposed to make them happy?

Because California is desirable. Wyoming isn’t and never will be.
