To them, that was severe and it was a sign of the moral decline of America. It's just that now, in the wake of Obergefell v Hodges and the leftward drift of our culture in the past 10 years, stopping abortion and LGBT rights and crushing secularism is at the top of their priority list and that end is worth accepting things they might have not accepted 20 years ago. As long as Trump continues to give the Christian Right what it wants, I think he's invincible.

But other than that, yeah, brownie points all the way down.
Nothing was done about any of that.

Eh, Nobody knows for sure if Kavanaugh is innocent, but one thing we know is Republicans instantly took the side with a possible predator and Democrats took side with a potential victim. The worst that happens to Kavanaugh is his name gets tarnished, the worst that happens to Christine Blassey Ford is her attacker gets away with a crime. Democrats took the high ground on this, as expected.

The dumb republicans wouldn't have grandstanded as much. Democratic leadership caused the deaths of 4 Americans by nation building. They ran guns to 1 side and the other side retaliated. It wasn't the bigoted response that came from democratic leadership, Muslims are crazy, they rioted over a video.

We needed all those hearings to tell us what we already knew. Our foreign policy of nation building causes Americans to die.

I think we should continue to take the higher ground, because it's a good long term strategy. How long can Republican's continue to cheat and lie before more people start noticing, right?
All of what you say makes total sense. Right now, there is this hostile atmosphere in America, with Trump fanning the flames of discord. It might seem that the way Trump has gained supporters is the wave of the future, but I do not think so. If the Democrats get down into the mud with the GOP, we are lost.

They do need to take the high ground, still keep their belief that MOST Americans are decent, non bigoted human beings, and that, by laying out programs that rebuild our economy, bring peace and safety to this country, and solve a lot of problems Trump turned his back on, they would be taking the high road.

But, the problem is, Trump doesn't play fair and , for some unknown reason, some of his supporters think the more outrageous he gets the better. Winning those folks over with sensible answers might not work. They want turmoil and chaos, and distrust anything that smacks of government.

He didn't commit a crime and you don't care about the truth.

In case you didn’t notice, every Congress has hearings or investigations about something. It’s the only thing either side wants to do anymore. They’d far rather have contentious hearings that play to their base than actually solve any problems. No one wants to get voted out for controversial votes, so they’ve given up their real duties to the bureaucracy and the executive branch and the judiciary. We no longer have three co-equal branches of government. Just a bunch of show hearings for the folks back home to remember.

I don’t think screaming that women must be believed over due process is taking the high road. Not a single one of her named witnesses corroborated her story. At least three accusers were found to have lied. Yet we must “believe women” and ignore the constitutional rights of the accused. I don’t think so.
