A lot of hair raising stories but thankfully armed defenders saved the day.

Quote:
The right to keep and bear arms is based on the natural, immutable right to defend oneself and one’s liberties from crime and tyranny.

Unfortunately, too many well-intentioned people today advocate severely restricting the ability of law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and others with the most effective firearms.

Their desire for strict gun control laws is based largely on misperceptions. They believe that Americans rarely use firearms to protect their rights and liberties, and they think commonly proposed gun control laws will meaningfully address gun-related violence.

But the reality is quite different.
Just a few of the stories:

Quote:
—April 1, Mullan, Idaho. A domestic violence incident ended badly for the male attacker after his female victim defended herself by shooting him in the face. The man survived and is facing charges of domestic battery and attempted strangulation. The woman was hospitalized with her own injuries from the altercation, but escaped with her life.

—April 3, Duquesne, Pennsylvania. An elderly taxi driver picked up a passenger who, during the ride, proceeded to pull out a gun and demand money from him. The passenger didn’t know that the driver had a concealed carry permit and was armed with his own handgun. The driver shot and killed the passenger in self-defense.

Those are only the ones you hear about

Exponentially more crime is prevented simply by the would be victim brandishing a gun, and the would be criminal deciding to move along. These largely go unreported.

Just a few of the stories:
According to many of the posters here, they would have had guns with or without the existence of 2A or any other laws. Which is it...?

One has nothing to do with the other.

Yes people would have guns UNLESS many on the left like Fienstein and now harris got their way and banned them.

BUT, BECAUSE of the 2nd amendment they have been able to KEEP them!

Have you ever read the NY and Ca gun laws?

We should all be able to call upon the inner John Wick when necessary.

30'000+ lives lost every year by being shot to death says otherwise - you do the maths.

Is that counting self inflicted suicide????

And of the murders by gun, a staggering % is gang or drug related. I

It would be exponentially higher if criminals had no fear of would be victims being able to defend themselves.

Gun control laws will only be followed by the same people you don't have to worry about committing crimes. Criminals by their very nature are law breakers and don't care what a gun control law says since they probably didn't buy their guns legally in the first place they aren't going to be following any gun control laws.

All it does is prevent the sheepdogs from protecting themselves from wolves. Makes no sense.

That's the difference, we are not subjects here but rather have freedom other countries couldn't dream of. I understand it's foreign but that's just fine.

Does that number reflect the idiot gang banger drug dealers that shoot each other defending their turf? A life is a life but when you are trying to gather sympathy for those fools there is none. The problem with those gang shooters is that they are often lousy shots and they end up hurting or killing innocent people that are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When it comes to gun control measures why do you think that our elected choose to create new laws instead of enforcing the ones that are already on the books? The answer is that criminals by definition break laws and the good law abiding citizens follow them.

I say we need to come down hard on anyone that uses an illegal gun in a commission of a crime. We already have a law in my state that if you are caught with an unlicensed gun you go to prison for 1 year but it is seldom enforced being plea bargained away or the sentence runs concurrently with other jail time.

Why?

I say throw the book at these gun toting criminals and our streets would be safer, there would be fewer gun related deaths and less need for more gun Right restricting laws.
