Just like today. Politicians dismiss scientists because their findings contradict their views and threaten their power..

Not quite: The laws of nuclear physics are well-defined, and do not change. Chernobyl was the result of too much power concentrated in the hands of an absolutist government, which elected to ignore those laws.

Climate change, on the other hand, is an emerging theory; Climate change is real, but all of the causative factors, and the interactions between them, have yet to be clearly defined. In the interim, it has been deliberately morphed into "junk science" (Anthropogenic Global Warming, or AGW) in order to increase the power, influence, and personal wealth of those who subscribe to it, via access to mass media geared to the simplistic thinking of the low masses, and misuse of the monopoly on coercion embodied in the modern nation-state.

Correct --save for the fact that it's the would be dictators in Left Field who seek power in the name of self-righteous nonsense, and seek stronger authority in order to silence their opposition.

You are 100% right. The right-wing in particular will go after science if it contradicts their religious and political views.

The irony of course is that right-wingers will go forums like this and spout off and bloviate about all their knowledge about science whether it is climate change, CFCS, pollutants, etc.

They know nothing of which they speak and are always wrong. It is all political garbage, not science, they spew like a belching Mt. Etna.

To the Right wing nutter science is fluid. Like the truth. It is not a coincidence that the two are treated the same.

Take what they have to say with a grain of salt. It is worth no more than that.

Yes- Just like today when the politicians embrace "climate change", despite all the scientific evidence that refutes it.

Politicians are trained liars who will take any information and twist it to suit their agenda. GMOs and the constant assault by political groups is another issue in which the scientific evidence is totally ignored in favor of a political agenda.

peak oil

population explosion causing world wide famines

vaccinations are killing people

coffee causes cancer

GMOs are dangerous

The hole in the ozone layer will expand and kill us all

Fluoridation of water kills people

third world immigrants are not responsible for the rise in TB in the US

carbon dioxide is bad for the planet

I have been watching it on Sky Atlantic in the UK, it's episode three on Tuesday night.

The initial dismissal of the scientists by the political elite was indeed disgusting, and in the end it was the scientists and the brave nuclear workers and fire crews who saved the day, and who saved millions of lives.

Having to seek volunteer to go under a crumbling nuclear reactor core to release water valves and the horrendous nuclear poisoning and burns was equally chilling.

The political elites at the time were more concerned about covering the whole thing up rather than being concerned with the lives of their own people.

To this day they are still feeling the impact, it has been passed onto the next generation. Amazing bravery by the scientists and firemen and total disregard of facts by the decision makers.

The laws of chemistry surrounding heat trapping gases has not changed either.

True. But also keep in mind that this was the old Soviet Union. The State could never, ever admit to being wrong and this reactor core was their pride and joy. The politicians knew better (just like today) but they weren't allowed to admit it.

I have found the series most interesting as well.

The left wing thinks a man can become a woman and vice versa. They have no room to talk when it comes to science.

As if that statement somehow has any relevance to what’s being discussed.....
