So you want the programs ended?

The numbers are not surprising.

How about shifting money from idiotic issues, like "global warming" initiatives or funding some psycho's sex change and use the money wisely.

No one wants social security or medicare eliminated or reduced. They are the only federal programs which have reduced poverty levels.

That and our investments allow us to live very well. It's all about planning.

I would gladly opt out. I think I could do better in the market, with the money I put in.

"No one"? How about the people who fund the puppets people vote for? The ruling billionaire class have absolutely no need for SS and Medicare and are determined to eliminate it. And they'll get their way eventually. Just like they've largely succeeded in destroying labor unions for the workers, labor rights, eroded the minimum wage, weakened anti-trust legislation and transferred a massive share of national income into the hands of Wall Street and the top 0.1%.

So those in the lower 75% can't purchase investments that do well in the market?

Pretty sad, isn't it? People pay ~15% of their income into SS and Medicare their entire working lives. For many, that's 50 years of payments. Such a lousy rate of return for such an investment is criminal. One more reason that SS needs to be privatized. If that same money were invested in just a simple equity account for that long, they could live like royalty. Instead they get a poultry payout. Worse, when they pass on, they don't get their money back to give to their family. Far too many that have been paying in for decades die before they collect a single dollar. It's time to privatize SS and ensure that individuals have the chance to have their own accounts, not what trivial amount the government chooses to return to them.
