Paranoid Richard Nixon taped everything, even this conversation where Governor Ronald Reagan called President Nixon to complain about the United Nations admitting Communist China and booting Taiwan. That would make this conversation occurring in November 1971.
Quote:
“Last night, I tell you, to watch that thing on television as I did,” Reagan said. “Yeah,” Nixon interjected. Reagan forged ahead with his complaint: “To see those, those monkeys from those African countries—damn them, they’re still uncomfortable wearing shoes!” Nixon gave a huge laugh.
The actual audio tape of the conversation is included in the article. There’s been stories of LBJ and others using such language in private, but I’m not sure we’ve ever had two Presidents on tape with one talking like this and the other laughing about it.
