On Monday, Trump starts out by saying hatred has no place in America and denounced white supremacy. But he ends by saying, "But this is also a mental illness problem. If you look at both of these cases, this is mental illness. These are people that are very, very seriously mentally ill.”
Give me a break, there is hatred and white supremacy brewing. If these shooters were brown, the word mentally ill would never have been mentioned. And if someone did mention mental illness if these guys were brown, they would be laughed at.
Don't play the mental illness card. Picture below is correct in the sad state of affairs in America:
Stop playing the mental illness card. Trump starts okay but then ends with mentally ill?
Although important, the focus on mental health problems as a single cause for the mass shooting crisis in America deflects from serious discussions of the common denominator—guns. If we frame the issue as one of mental health or exposure to violence, we delay actions related to addressing the primary tool of these assaults—guns.
No we do not. Stop putting out fake news. But we absolutely know the El Paso shooter was a Trump loving white supremist.
The social media accounts/posts of both are out there, but CNN doesn’t approve of anyone knowing about the Dayton shooter, so that story is not being told.

Ummm................. yes we do. He was an admirer and supporter of Warren.
I guess that ruins your thread, huh?
Here you go- looks like he was a model democrat. He could have been a dem congressman had he not gone on a rampage. Anti-Christian and ANTIFA supporter- he had all the "right" boxes checked for libs, just like the guy who tried to bomb the ICE facility.

It doesn't ruin any thread. Who cares about Warren? The point is that mental illness is brought out every time a white person shoots things up. And terrorism is present when a non-white person does it. Focus on the real problem with hate and white supremacy.
Also, corpgypsy is correct that mental illness is also used to shift the attention away from guns.
Someone who is mentally ill to begin with is easily triggered by the current atmosphere of bigotry and xenophobia. Trump hopes that his racist tweets will win him another term in office and Fox knows that controversy will help prop up their ratings. Rush Limbaugh and his imitators know that hate filled invective will keep listeners glued to the radio.
There will always be those among us who suffer from untreated mental illness. So long as society values tax breaks for billionaires over health care (including treatment for mental conditions), this will never change. Today the country is like a tinderbox and Trump and his hate filled supporters are supplying the match.

I thought the El Paso shooter was labelled a domestic terrorist and the Dayton shooter was lablled mental ill, as he had issues in the past.
The truth is that most mentally ill people are not a danger to anyone, and labelling the mentally ill in such away just adds to the stigma they must already feel.
Of course there is a small percentage of mentally ill people who are a danger to others, and it is these individuals that need to be identified, however even people with severe views and mental health problems will inevitable slip through the net, the difference is other countries increasingly make sure that they have no access to guns.

And if the Walmart crazy had used a bucket of gasoline instead (like the mass killer in Japan)? Would you call for a gasoline ban? Your gun argument falls flat — the problem is a mentally ill person, not the inanimate tool of his actions.
