Remember when hospitals were “not for profit” and instead became a money making machine for stockholders? And we're making America Great Again?

An amazing story of what happens to people when things start to go bad. The hospital demands payment, sues, and the unbelievable fallout from it all for a divorced mother working two jobs to support her three children. No one in America should have to deal with this problem!

Then, they can’t pay and sometimes can’t even set up a payment plan. While the majority of hospitals don’t make it a regular practice to take their patients to court, the Carlsbad Medical Center has filed more than 3,000 suits since 2015. The Line debates whether the state should be stepping in to stem the lawsuit tide.

Someone points out the problems with the practices of a hospital and your first response is to tell them to open a hospital. What a wonderful human being you must be.
I cant speak for the rest of the country, but most hospitals in my area are still not for profit hospitals. At least all the major hospitals, anyway. Around here, it is usually the smaller hospitals that change over to for profit, and they are usually the hospitals that were not very good in the first place.

Obviously not as wonderful as someone like you who volunteers other people's money to build, maintain and operate something with all the risk and no return.
Even not for profit hospitals are still fee for service and trying to maximize revenue and salaries by pushing the most expensive and evasive and damaging procedures at the expense of patients' health and even their lives.

Even if those are not-for-profit from a legal standpoint, how is that not-for-profit from a practical standpoint?

You just told someone to use their money to open a hospital.
Do people even understand what "not for profit" means?
Only difference between that and for profit institutions is where money goes. For profit places pay out to shareholders/investors. Not for profit by law must direct funds back into their mission.
There are great for profit hospitals and their are bad, ditto for non-profit.
Here in New York by law all hospitals are "non-profit" and care historically has varied by institution. Many of the larger and or wealthy systems have faced accusations for years they fail to provide enough indigent care.
In fact if you are poor, don't have insurance, on Medicaid, good luck getting into any of the top NYC hospitals. Unless you show up at their emergency rooms *and* they don't fob you off to another hospital due to "lack of beds", that is pretty much only way you'll get past front door.
