They probably are... it's the only logical conclusion for such an extreme and provocative move by China.
How does that make sense? We're told they're "desperate" for a deal with Trump and you say they make extremely provocative moves because they are crumbling? This deal does not look like they are desperate to please Trump.

China is waiting, hoping, and praying one of the dems can beat Trump (not likely).
Meanwhile, China is taking a beating as they experience the worst economic numbers they're had in decades, and companies beginning to move out.
Our trade war with China is a win, win for us, we either get a new deal that resolve serious issues, or the supply chain continues to move out of China (the better option for us in the long term).

So if they are in such a desperate situation, why would they deliberately anger Trump like this?
So you think you will be a winner if you buy stuff from Bangladesh instead of China? Exporters have been moving out of China for literally decades now. Wages in China have been skyrocketing and they are no longer the low wage country it used to be.

You need look no farther than where China is dumping their money into Iran... oil and gas.
You guys don't give China enough credit, they're communists and don't have to answer to their people. They would rather posture then admit an economic weakness to the west. They will continue to play chicken with us and make deals with our adversaries and allies until we cave not the other way around.
Meanwhile back home Trump is in no hurry to make a deal. He'll do anything he can to extend talks so he's not caught holding the recession bag before election day.
This whole situation is far too delicate for someone like Trump to handle. This was my biggest worry of him getting elected. No nuance and full of ego. You can't steamroll world powers and put out false flags every week, sooner or later they call your bluff and make a military move in the islands or drive by another ship at 25 yds this time. Will you then trust your commander in chief to make the right decision??

I still dont see how giving the finger to Trump shows that they are desperate for a deal with him.
After all, Trump has said that the goal of the trade war is to prevent China from becoming a developed country and keep it in poverty so it wont surpass US GDP. Do you think any country would accept a deal on those conditions?
I never said they were desperate to make a deal with Trump... but their economy is.
It makes more sense when you realize China's trade policies ain't about selling toasters... it's about hegemony.
It's pretty clear they're playing the long game with their Belt Road initiative. I don't have a crystal ball but I'd be damn paranoid of the guy making useless twitter posts nearly every night at midnight to protect his 12yo ego. Everyone outside of this country is laughing at him, he's making a mockery of our already failed govt.

What??? Trump started this trade war with China over balance of trade - he wants to sell more American stuff to them. But they don't want our stuff (except food) and most economists say balance of trade is a false issue. Trump is realizing that so he lumped in loss of American IP to China but the reality is that IP was lost due to business decisions by American companies which is just good old capitalism at work. The last issue is currency manipulation which is not going to change much.
Basically, there is no way to win this trade war. When the dust settles Americans will still be buying far more crap from China than they buy from us, and the Chinese currency will still be manipulated. We are just grumbling because China is a behemoth that is passing us up and it hurts to now be in second place. The US is not the big kid on the block any more, we cannot push everyone else around, we now have to learn to work with other world powers.
