A majority of Americans were at first against impeaching Nixon as well. We all however know how that ended as more came out.

I don't think coerce means what you think it means.

You can also ad that if you have a former VP who used his office to coerce a foreign power to cease to investigate a family member, the fact they happen to be one of 18 candidates, 14 months before an election, he should be investigated.

The US is not a democracy.
They voted to impeach because there was a clear crime committed. Perjury is a serious offense, and there was no doubt that Clinton committed perjury.

Nixon had the dignity and class to resign before subjecting the country to an impeachment proceeding. Trump has neither of those things, or the self-awareness that he even did something wrong.
