These numbers don't bounce back. There's a lot of employer belt tightening. Leisure travelers are broke. That demand stagnation gets only worse the longer Democratic governors and mayors tighten the screws on their quarry.
Like you mentioned about employer belt tightening. I wonder how many companies will realize that flying to a convention makes less sense when you can just do it by face time live. It's not like face time & other features are new but I think some companies just always viewed it as a way to get out of the office & go on a trip. But once they look at the savings they made I'm sure some will decide it's just not worth it.
Good that means more people are taking it seriously.
But yes a bailout for the airlines will likely be needed.
Airlines should be made to sell their stocks, at whatever prices they are, because they used poor judgment in taking prior tax cuts, stimulus, etc. to buy back their stocks. Regular people wouldn't get away with that.
Think of how many people are affected by this. How many retailers who sell to air travelers, how many support staff, and crew. How many hoteliers. How many marketers, advertisers, web sites that depend on air travel reservations, the businesses that feed them, the blogs that get ad revenue,....
I don't understand why these billion dollar companies like most airlines are need a bailout after 3 weeks of shut down? I can see a small mom and pop restaurant that operates on a tight budget with small margins but a multi billion dollar company? One would think they would plan for a rainy day. I wonder if we will be seeing another hike in the baggage fees and other nit picking money grabbing schemes so the airlines can pay their stock holders?
My wife and I won't be flying anytime soon and we used to go about once per year. This June we were planning a trip to go to Ireland for a wedding then tacking on a week in Italy but not now.
