I have been to downtown Seattle twice, a few years ago.
From the FB video, I did not see a whole lot worse there.
Seattle was too rough and too punk rock, too transient.
Loved Pikes Market and the above rail monorail tram thing.
Other than that, it honestly reminded me of the old
Red Light District in Amsterdam circa 1991.
Giving that there is no police force there, I am pleasantly
surprised by the lack of escalating violence. Of course,
I would never go near there or near any protests. I am
not a protester by nature, I try to bloom where I am planted.
But I have traveled the world extensively and my own son
returned a year or so ago from working in Paris France for a
few months, which he found overwhelming and overcrowded.
Situations like what is in the video do not shock me, but
I do enjoy living in a safer and smaller community. I never
felt safe in Seattle, I think downtown Chicago where I spent
a few days visiting years ago felt safer to me than Seattle did.

Yeah like I don't know if you realized this, but businesses in the city have been closed since March? For reasons having nothing to do with protests or the CHAZ? Hello?
And it seems like you don’t realize that businesses in that area can’t even reopen because they can’t even get into that area. Thanks to the CHOP police. Love how you ignored everything else in the OP. Hellooooo anyone home???????
This area is not confined to the six blocks. In all directions N, S, E, W there are additional blocks and blocks of boarded up buildings. All of those have been spray painted on. Sidewalks are damaged and the trees are bare. The area is full of violent people yelling at one another. I was challenged to fight one talk black man screaming at me the usual "come on mf...." I was able to say I was a nurse and he let me into the center of this miserable concoction of slum homeless and the anti social. There are guns, knives and I would surmise more that this. Rather than the summer of love in the Mayors words these degenerates are looking for a fight....any fight.
I was in Sarajevo before the war. it reminded me of this. No snipers as luck would have it.
This is a devastated area. It will take millions of dollars to rebuild. Pikes Place Market is down Pine street and is essentially shuttered.
After being there, seeing with my own eyes, I can report to you that the destruction of this community in about 2 square miles is a foul smelling on your guard area. There is a feeing of threat and danger. It's hard to fathom that it is located is a major city in the United States.
It is tragic and intentional.
You're brave sir! So glad my son left Cap Hill for Kirkland. I don't think this little block party is going to end well.
There are two schools. One is to allow life to develop on it's own. The other is to guide it. Both are valued and valuable in my viewpoint. One must have boundaries to flourish...
I wish I could convey the sense of "other worldliness" this area has.
