He calmly begins, "You should all be fired from your day jobs, because if your employers knew that you were more inefficient than the DMV, you would be replaced in a heartbeat. I literally just finished a conference call because I'm having to multitask to be here to address you guys. You're a bunch of cowards hiding behind our children as an excuse for keeping schools closed. You think you're some sort of martyrs because of the decisions you're making when the statistics do not lie that the vast majority of the population is not at risk from this virus."

Imo, this is what comes from having no clearly defined criteria for reopening the schools in an area.

If people knew (just for example) that when 20% of the population in a certain area have been infected with the COVID, that schools would reopen, then maybe people would not become so angry and frustrated.

Imo, it is because there is no definite end in sight to COVID closings and restrictions that people are becoming impatient.

oh, absolutely. unfortunately, government rarely understands how to work that way. Just imagine, if we'd done things the old way, we *might* have a vaccine in 2022.

as for schools, I'd suggest it's at the point "why do teachers they are exempt from going to the workplace?"

I don’t condone him screaming at the Board but I definitely understand his frustration. Kids need to go back to school. It’s been ten months.

You didn't hear? China Joe banned the use of "China Virus". Scarce resources will be devoted towards scouring government websites, looking for the term so it can be removed. That will surely lay this pandemic to rest! Hurray for wise, efficient and all knowing government!

Wanting your kid around has nothing to do with it. Many families require both parents to work in order to make ends meet, They can't do that if one has to be home with the kids because they are too young to leave alone. That puts a big dent in the family income and then the worry becomes how to feed to family and pay the rent/mortgage.

Nice.

Frankly, I think schools are in a tough spot. It’s definitely a fantastic environment for a sickness to spread - in fact they’re famous for it - and schools don’t really know who those kids are going to go home to and whether or not those people harbor vulnerabilities. I have some ideas in mind about how to circumvent that, but I haven’t heard of any schools trying any of them out.

I do think the rote, blank call for everything to open now is wrongheaded, but given that we know who’s more vulnerable, it’s shocking that nobody has really done much to thread that needle.
