The California supreme court is a rather conservative supreme court and nobody expected the ruling to go this way. It just dawned on me that this decision might be a political play for Republicans. Nothing rallies the Republican base like the gay marriage issue. Getting it back in the headlines will allow Republicans to use this issue to rally their base like they did in 2004. The Massachussetts decision had a ripple effect that won the election for Bush in 2004. Could the same thing be happening again?
It's always wise to see what "hate card" the Republicans will pull out next but frankly the gay marriage issue is a dead horse that won't get any traction for the GOP. They tried using racism in Mississippi last week & still lost.
IF the Iraq War keeps staying out of the news every day, and the economy looks far from a recession, I think the Republicans will still score big election winning points with the gay marriage issue, especially in the red states. There's still a great deal of deep heart felt hatred out there against gays to be exploited by the Republicans.
 The economy is IN a recession... people might not understand that, but we normal folks that make under $40,000 a year are feeling the pinch real tight... they/we will vote for a change...
Republicans will never make it to the White house, I'd be very surprised if they even get one chunk of the legislature...

We're not in a recession. We won't know until July whether we are or aren't.
