There were 328 million people in the us in jan 2019, and 331 million in jan 2020. That's 3 million more people, which could easily offset the number of increased deaths. The number of increased deaths was approx 280k over 2019. Some of those increases can also be attributed to higher suicide, drug overdoses, untreated cancer/heart attack, renal failure, etc due to lockdowns as well as higher murder rates that cities are experiencing.

I suspect that those 3 million new people in the USA were mostly newborns, and of course they don't die from Covid.
I'll try and explain the issue to you, as a retire internist who has filled out many a death certificate.
Many months back the CDC reported that a low percentage of death certificates listed only Covid 19 as the cause of death. As I recall in the 5-6% range.
Many latched onto that meaning only 5-6% of Covid 19 deaths with attributed to solely Covid 19.
But that was preliminary and before this was investigated further.
First off, most people that die with a positive Covid 19 test within a few weeks of death by and large die FROM Covid. A few like the motorcyclist died WITH. Of course some die WITH, since so much testing was done. And also some were already near death, and many very old and previously sick would have died in that few week time frame anyway. But those numbers are relatively small compared to the first group.
Death certificates have 3 basic lines to fill out. 1- immediate cause of death, 2 - antecedent cause(s), and then 3 - other significant medical conditions at the time of death.
Now, here's deal - you cannot immediately die from Covid 19. You die of a complication. Typically in this case respiratory failure. So line 1 cannot be as simple as Covid 19. And a properly filled out death certificate cannot be as simple as just Covid 19.
So those early figures of few dying solely from Covid 19 were an artifact.
Of course few who die from Covid 19 had no other medical history, but by and large those that had a medical history died FROM Covid 19 as they were more susceptible.

The idea that a death certificate with ailments listed in addition to COVID-19 means that the person did not really die from the virus is simply false, Anderson says.'
The simple answer to this question is yes and we’re being played... Without question.

Yup. Democrats were happy to ruin millions of lives with unnecessary lockdowns and school closures just to ensure Trump didn't get re-elected. They would have happily seen millions more die from COVID than did die to achieve that result.
Democrats politicized COVID-19 and the government's response from Day One, like they have done with every issue including history, language, pro sports, and everything else there is.
