This has absolutely nothing to do with "woke culture" run amok or reparations. This is directly righting a wrong committed to a family by the city, and their direct descendants would be the recipients.

Agreed. We're no fans of the woke culture madness that sweeping through the US so much these days but this is not an example of that. It's a clear cut case of a historical wrong and injustice committed against African-Americans, that any ethical person would disapprove of. Fairness and justice demand that it's be corrected and the rightful owners receive compensation. We can get polarized like crazy in the USA today but that makes it all the more important not to lump issues together and get pushed to extremes, and evaluate things case by case. Even for the most adamant opponents of reparations, this has to be seen as a case when a terrible wrong was committed against an African-American population on racial grounds and need correction.
