Galveston County County Judge Mark Henry (R) said Tuesday that he has signed a local disaster declaration in response to the "ongoing border crisis." Galveston County is 400 miles from the nearest border town, Brownsville, and closer to New Orleans than Mexico.

These people are like locusts swarming our country with impunity compliments of president Biden.

If anyone has ever wondered why Texas' grid is so bad and why no one tried to fix it. It's because they keep wasting time and money on things like this.

Yep.

Just think, if the Federal govt had done their job (securing the U.S. border, regulating people according to law who cross it), Texas wouldn't have to waste all this money on it.

But... elections have consequences.

Yeah, no.

When will the swarm of "migrants" coming across the border be considered an invasion? Galveston is 400 miles from the border and they are declaring a crisis which means they are being overwhelmed which means that citizens and LEGAL immigrants are having their daily lives affected by this Federally approved lawlessness.

Will we be hearing similar calls for help next week from counties that are 1000 miles from the border?

Does the swarm need to knock on the door of the White House for Biden and the Dems to wake up and realize that this is not good for America?

The Dems are playing a dangerous game in their pursuit of ultimate power.

400 Miles in Texas ain't squat. I just went 1200 for a 3 day weekend getawy.

Our schools and our facilities are being overwhelmed. I suspect people are being smuggled into Galveston by boat also.

Texas everywhere has a problem. Time to form a Texas Militia to control our borders.

Political posturing and nothing else. Texas would collapse overnight without their army of illegal workers. You can be sure they are tickled pink at the prospect of all those new arrivals taking up the massive vacancies in the recovering hospitality industry.

Took me a bit to find an article about this with no paywall.
I assumed this Declaration was about getting money for Galveston County.
It’s not - it’s about helping with the Border Crisis - which really effects all of Texas.

Galveston County Judge Mark Henry issues disaster declaration citing border crisis

During a news conference Tuesday, Henry talked about the ongoing border crisis, its effect on Galveston County and his plan to assist in the state’s efforts.
“As a result of the crisis at the border, we have seen a number of things in Galveston County,” Henry said. “We have seen an increase in violent and organized crime. ... We have seen an increased flow of drugs, ... and finally, we have been told about the stash houses for human trafficking.”

Henry also announced that he signed an executive order which will:
—approve American Rescue Plan Act funding to send law enforcement to assist with the border crisis.
—dedicate up to 10% ($6.6 million) of Galveston County’s American Rescue Plan Act funds for border wall construction.
—create a task force that will help support or relieve DPS in regard to the border crisis.

Yes there is a huge problem at the border. Unrelated to that though, in general Mark Henry is an idiot and does more harm than good for Galveston county.
