I get it, you think abortion is murder no matter when it happens. Many of us disagree. It is what it is. I personally have no issue with banning it past the first trimester, but the states that are choosing to outlaw it completely represent an extreme position, as is the idea of allowing third trimester abortion (which thankfully almost never happens in the US).

In the 70s, there were 4 million abortions a year. Now we're down to 800-900K and falling, which is a testament to increasing access to birth control, safer sex practices (despite some folks insistence that we've descended into sexual Gomorrah), and overall falling birth rates outside of the context of abortion. That all to me is a win and we've clearly been going in the right direction.

This new world isn't going to decrease the total amount of abortions at a faster rate in my view - it will just result in a reshifting of where they are done. All of these efforts by states to make abortions in other states illegal for state residents will fail - the logic is flimsy. If that's the precedent, what would stop a person in Utah from being prosecuted over, say, gambling in Vegas, since the same is illegal in Utah?

However, some women wont have access and I fear for them. For the ones who will be killed by partners who do not want a baby and the ones who will try to take desperate measures if for whatever reason they are not able to travel. Those are lives too, but to some, a 4-week old embryo will take precedence anyway, which is a shame.
Good post.

What this really illustrates is the fact that the “viability” argument isn’t about the survival age of the baby at delivery, but has much more to do with the relative state of technological advancement of modern medicine, and it’s strengths and shortcomings.

Likely within 50-60 years we will have artificial wombs that will eliminate the idea of a viability age or gestation week. Of course that will likely bring many more questions and issues to address since at that point you could remove the female and male outside of their donation of sperm and egg in the formation of a human.

They’re just letting us know they’ve still got the elections rigged and they are going to steal the seats they need to take over the states they want etc for fully formed child abortion.

Well the doctors were STUNNED and its a MIRICLE. The survival rate for 21 week fetus is <1% so yes viability is an argument.
Baby Curtis holds the Guiness book of world records being born at 21 weeks 1 day.

"Curtis, who grew stronger by the day, was discharged from the hospital about nine months later. He was given medication and special equipment, such as a feeding tube and bottled oxygen. ..........

..........The previous record holder, Richard Hutchinson, was born just a month before Curtis, at 21 weeks and 2 days gestation, on June 5, 2020. Prior to that, the record remained unbroken for 34 years.
"
It is yet to be seen what long term disabilities either of these children will have.

Emphasizing that last sentence. Will this baby need a feeding tube and oxygen for the rest of his life? Stop and think what kind of life that would be.
