If lockdowns truly work, you can never reopen without risking a new wave of infections. That is the fallacy of lockdowns.
Herd immunity is the only way out. Unless your vaccine is genuine and works, like the small pox vaccine. Vaccines don't stop coronaviruses. This was positively known entering the 2020 epidemic. It was also known that you don't vaccinate during an epidemic.
What did states like Mississippi, Arizona, West Virginia, Alabama, and Arkansas that led to the most deaths per million as a result of Covid vs the other states?

many variables contribute to mortality other than how draconian a governor is
You would have to lock the entire world down at the very same time for lockdowns to ever work. As long as the virus is allowed to circulate somewhere in the world, that's exactly what it will do. And the moment lockdowns are ended, the people will be just as vulnerable as ever, unless there is a safe and effective vaccine available for the masses.
Only the most arrogant and stuffiest of liberals and commies believe they can or even should be able to shut the entire world down. I think all that technology made them more arrogant than in the past, and made them believe they have super powers they don't.
It's in human being's nature to want to control each other and tell each other what to do. Simple answer. It's how a nation like China survives as long as it does... give enough people special privileges for being enforcers of the system and they can control the masses. Remember all the catch phrases and slogans the left drug out? "We are in this together" and other nonsense that was code for "you better do as we say" ... Belling was talking about this on yesterday's show... how doing things that are perceived to be selfless and "good" is used to virtue signal in politics these days. Look at me, look at how much good I'm doing... you better do the same, or you're not compassionate, a hater, a racist, etc. They seemed to take a perverse pleasure in wearing the masks when other people could see them wearing it... look at me, I'm not spreading covid (except they were, as those disposable blue masks don't work)
Like people have already said, imagine trying to prevent coronaviruses long term only with lockdowns.... the lockdowns would never come to an end.
