Before voting in the poll, please consider that tax revenues flowing into the Treasury have increased 53 of the last 60 years:

They definitely have a spending problem. I think it should be a requirement of anyone that is running for higher office that they can demonstrate that they have the ability to run a successful lemonade stand at the beach on a hot day.

If we ran our households the way the Feds run this country we would be living in a van down by the river. Where is the accountability with these bozos?

Republicans will say we have a spending problem. Democrats will say we have a revenue problem. Democrats do not seem to understand that you eventually run out of other people's money, yet it is "just a revenue problem from the greedy rich"...

We have a shortfall that will never be made up by cuts alone, even significant cuts to Medicaid, SS and DOD will not balance the budget. Time to start increasing taxes to pay our way. Simpson-Bowles was the most practical way to address both cuts and spending but of course it died on the vine. Congress doesn't like to dish out bad news.

If anyone thinks that we can make cuts alone to balance the budget let's hear the proposal.

Get rid of the extraneous programs and grants. Why always go after the major ones ?

Do we really need SEVEN milk programs so that everyone can get milk ? Fully funded separate agencies.

Spending.

The Fed govt is a bloated fatty who can't stop eating with a hunger that cannot be satiated.

Intervention is imperative.

In the past 12 yrs, tax revenues flowing into the Treasury have nearly DOUBLED...in just 12 yrs, but we still increased the national debt during this time.

As a percentage of GDP, we average 17.3% in revenue and 19.2% in outlays...for the last 70 years. Year in, year out, we outspend revenue by ~2% of that year's GDP. That number, btw, has been steadily increasing for the last 30 years.

It's a spending problem, period.

And anyone who thinks you can legislate Americans to pay more than 17% of the GDP in taxes, on average, doesn't know history, cannot read a spreadsheet on OMB.gov, and has never heard of Hauser's Law. America has shown, quite clearly and demonstrably, that they are only willing to pay a certain amount of taxes before they alter their behavior. When tax rates topped at 91%, the government got 17% of the GDP in revenue. When tax rates topped below 30%, the government got 17% of the GDP in revenue. Basically, the government can plan in any given year to get somewhere near 17% of the GDP in revenue.

If they outspend, they meant to.

I agree, & I think ~80% who reply to this poll will agree too.

My next poll will attempt to flush out what an "Intervention" would like like.
