Personally I think gays are their own worst enemy when it comes to image, Any time the news has a story on Gay pride they always show a Gay parade with guys wearing thongs smacking each other on the ass and acting out sexual positions, it doesn't portray gays as normall people who just perfere the same sex, i would think that Gay's would not want this image all over TV, it is not a healthy image for someone who wants to be accepted as being normal.
We have a "gay pride" parade in Washington called the "17th Street Drag Races." People come from miles around to see the costumes. What's the problem with campy gays? I think it's really funny.
Gay people's identities are unfortunately centered on their sexuality. It is the ONLY part of who they are that is unique to them because every other aspect of their existence is the same as heterosexuals. You can't have a gay pride parade without that uniqueness playing a part in the report. However, the media shows nothing BUT the activities you describe because it doesn't want you to think that the vast majority of participants were anything but ordinary partygoers. Can't have the masses thinking these people are normal, NO! How else would they get people to view the news without shocking them for ratings?
Let's put the shoe on the other foot: What do you think a HETEROsexual pride parade would entail? (Oh wait, isn't that "Girls Gone Wild" and every Spring Break in Florida?). Would the definition of "normal" still apply?
If there was a straight pride parade and men and women were portraying sexual positions down the street infront of children, people would speak out agians't it and the law suits would pour in.
Spring breal is just that and there are plenty of gays who partisipate.
Girls gone wild is just porn, no differant than any other video.
I agree but it hurts the image and that is what most people will see and that image stays in peoples minds, if I were gay I wouldn't want people to think of me in that way. If Gays were portrayed in a more positive image there would be more acceptance. In our county gays have a bad reputation because of some places they have deemed their grounds and the conditions of these areas after they took them over, the news has shown stories on this but not one gay person has stepped up and to show this is not a normal thing for gays to do, so the image shown is very abnormal for anyone.
And do you feel the same way about all hets once you read the Darwin Awards? That all hets are violent when you read about a guy who murders his wife, kids and dog? About all women when you see commercials for "Girls Gone Wild"?

The FACT is its not normal behavior. Wether labeled a disease, abnormality, mental disorder, sexual disorder, whatever, its never going to be normal. Its acceptable & I have no problems with it as it is.

Homosexuality is not a disease, abnormality, mental disorder or a sexual disorder...none of those labels should ever be applied to homosexuality, ever.
It may not be "normal" to you, however it is normal to millions and millions around the world who happen to be homosexual. That is reality.

So is the desire to scar oneself with knives or other sharp objects, to pierce one's flesh with metal, or to have someone inject ink under one's skin.
That these are all forms of reality to some people does not argue for their approbation by the public, or for their status as any more than a legally tolerated divergence from generally-accepted standards of human behavior.
