Republicans shut them down! My Way News - Senate GOP blocks windfall taxes on Big Oil Once again the democrats show us that, their only solution for anything is taxes. Is there anyone out there still believing these idiots, all they do is cost us more money, while trying to make us believe they are helping us? You all should call up Senate republicans and thank them for showing some common sense and sanity!

While I'm against any sort of windfall tax, do you think printing money out of thin air and begging China with cup in hand is a good alternative to paying our obligations?

Nah, didn't think so.

Try to stay on topic of the thread.

p.s. Its BOTH parties begging China with a cup in hand, look who passed the stimulus package plan that needed to be 100% borrowed for evidence.

McCain would be the best thing in the world to happen to Democrats. Put in a tax/spend liberal Republican, and when the economy tanks even more due to further help from the Democratic congress, (look at how they have inflated the gas prices for evidence) they can have another villian to point at..

Ah, the usual whining about a Democrat controlled Congress is replaced by cheers for Republicans shooting down a bill.

But McCain's philosophy of borrow and spend is a speedy road towards hyperinflation.

We CANNOT do both without the American people suffering a fate worse than your worst nightmares. Just 5 years of this sort of behavior has doubled our debt.

We might also get some USA drilling off shore if the Republicans have their way, instead of the Chinese drilling off of Florida.

And what in the world does this have to do with Democrats trying to cost us more at the pump?

p.s. you would have an argument about spending if the debt stopped when Democrats took control of congress, but it hasnt..

From the OP link: ''

GOP senators shoved aside the Democratic proposal, arguing that punishing Big Oil won't do a thing to lower the $4-a-gallon-price of gasoline that is sending economic waves across the country. High prices at the pump are threatening everything from summer vacations to Meals on Wheels deliveries to the elderly.
The Democratic energy package would have imposed a 25 percent tax on any "unreasonable" profits of the five largest U.S. oil companies, which together made $36 billion during the first three months of the year. It also would have given the government more power to address oil market speculation, opened the way for antitrust actions against countries belonging to the OPEC oil cartel, and made energy price gouging a federal crime. "Americans are furious about what's going on," declared Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. He said they want Congress to do something about oil company profits and the "orgy of speculation" on oil markets."""

Now let's explain to Americans how the Republicans are on THEIR side A "gift" for Democrats at the voting booth
