I agree with you, Oregon. China will soon be the new superpower, and the power of the US will wane. As has been said before, about a different entity, "The Empire, it is finished..."
The Chinese say that the 19th century belonged to the British, the 20th century belonged to the U.S. and the 21st century belongs to the Chinese.....seems to be true.
Yes, they have high production and the rich are making money with ....
endless supply of dirt cheap disposable labor, no safety regulations for workers or products, no pollution control or regulation,....and, of course , no human or civil rights....
Maybe we should adopt this COMMUNIST country's standards?
Why do some say Obama is a communist as if it's a bad thing when America bows down, SUPPORTS, and worships a communist country???
Why must assertions on China superceding the US economically be interpreted with strawman arguments such as "you like hearing that", etc? Just nationalistic verbal diarrhea IMHO.
I don't know, perhaps his little "Wow" comment and the theme of the rest of his/her statements?
Notice, I didn't exactly disagree with what was written however I know dozens of people who have visited China and thought it was a dump.
Much of what China has accomplished in terms of technology has been stolen from America anway. They've been around a lot longer than we have, how come we beat them to the moon?
Anyway, why must assertions about China's supposed overtaking of America's dominance be interpreted as America's DOWNFALL and not just the fact that we would be #2???
Charles Lindbergh praising the inevitable triumph of Nazi power redux.
Man. What ever happened to the study of history in this country?
SO true! Just compare these Olympics to Berlin 1936...........To answer the OP. If Uncle Sam held guns to everyones heads and killed many thousand people like the chicoms do we would toe the line in a second

Countries use all kinds of techniques to rise economically. America stole Nazi scientists for work on the bomb since we didn't have enough qualified people to run our cold war nuclear campaign. China, even with all of its copying, manages to raise the bar on capitalistic initiative that rivals America's industrial revolution. Patents mean squat if you can't transform them to real productive capacity.

It's easy to "steal" people who are desperate to escape from the Russians.

Baloney. China practices old-fashioned mercantilism, replete with a devalued currency and tight controls on imports. There is no "initiative", just a rerun of 19th century sweatshops and slave labor camps.
