A new book authored by Bob Woodward alleges that the U.S. spied on Maliki and has prompted Iraq to warn that, if true, shows a lack of trust between countries and could jeopardize future relations. Iran is asking for explanation. I assume Woodward will be featured on Sixty Minutes tonight to promote book which will be released tomorrow.

Chapters of the book are available here:
The War Within - A Secret White House History 2006-2008 (washingtonpost.com)

Print Story: White House: Bush wasn't detached from war review on Yahoo! News (broken link)
Clips:...
... "The War Within: A Secret White House History, 2006-2008," tells of a president detached, tentative and slow to react to the escalating violence in Iraq, The Washington Post reported on its Web site Thursday night...The book said Bush's decision in January 2007 to send about 30,000 more troops to Iraq — the so-called surge — was not the primary factor behind the steep drop in violence. The article identifies four factors that together reduced the violence: covert operations, the military buildup, anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's decision to rein in his Mahdi Army, and the "Anbar Awakening" in which Sunnis joined Americans in fighting al-Qaida in Anbar province in western Iraq.

Wow, we spied on a potentially (and historically) enemy of the us. Anyone want to bet that russia, china and yes -- iran! also have spies watching our president?
Woodward is printing the obvious.

Maybe obvious to a handful, but it is not obvious to most people. Look at the "news" from radio, local newspapers and local tv - specifically, the depth international issues are discussed. What people like Woodward do stands way way higher in stature than what the local news bimbo feeds us. Independent journalists should be applauded as they make the country strong.

Lets not forget that US and British intelligence also spied on the UN's "middle six" delegation leading up to the vote to take action against Iraq and it also was caught spying on Kofi Annan.

Nixon White House was filled with amateurs compared to the paranoid pinheads today.
