Who here believes in school vouchers for parents who want to send their kids to private school?

I am a big fan of them, and am hoping if McCain is elected President he will hold up to his word.

I believe that if we do not have vouchers, then parents should have the option to not pay taxes towards education, and get a tax refund. Parents who send their children to private schools have to pay two-fold.

Absolutely agree with you here, have been a proponent of school vouchers for the past decade or so.

Parents who send their kids to parochial school don't get a tax cut, why shouldn't they be able to use their tax money to help pay for their education?

Many school systems have minimal programs for severely handicapped kids, why not let schools be creative by financially incentivizing them to set up better programs?

For me it comes down to being able to afford to send my kids to schools where they will learn the values that I want instilled in them. Public education is a liberal farce nowadays, and it is the reason kids are turning out the way they are today, besides the fact that parents no longer want to take responsibility for raising their kids.

I do not want my kids to go to such a school system, but I also believe it is unfair that I should support a system that I am against, and get nothing in return. This is where tax breaks, or school vouchers come into play. They will help reduce the cost of sending my children to private Catholic schools.

How do homeschoolers fit into the voucher equation?

Why do you feel that the federal government has the authorization to dictate to the states how education is run?

I feel vouchers can provide benefit, but I am not willing to ignore the Constitution to get them implemented. Instead I look to a strong state legislature and a strong governor.

I think this one of the root problems in America. Everyone looks to the President as a monarch. We don't hold the Congress accountible, we don't look to our state legislatures or governors, or city governments or school boards... everything is about the President.

I support education tax for public schools only.
If you want more, buy it yourself.
Vouchers rob the public schools of public support.

Vouchers force public schools to be competitive. Right now, they have no incentive to provide a good education or a proper learning environment. If public schools knew that the money they get could go elsewhere, they'd be running a tighter ship and kids would actually be learning something. Right now, public school is more about crowd control than education - and that's unacceptable.
