Is a flat tax something that will spread in Europe and eventually to America?

Quote:

Economic activity accelerates
Economic growth reached a record 7.1 per cent in the first half of 2008, unprecedented for that period of the year (excluding recovery after the 1996-1997 crisis when growth was slightly higher). Moreover, the higher economic growth in Bulgaria comes at a time when the growth rates in the European economy are declining, even going into recession in some EU countries.

I haven't fully embraced the flat tax because I'd like to see where these countries in eastern Europe are in a few more years. So far I haven't seen where a flat tax has hurt an economy.

I seriously doubt that the modern incarnation of the role of government in America would allow for a flat tax, since social engineering is at the heart of its doctrine. I'd certainly like to give a flat tax a chance, but let's be real, when you can buy votes with "taxes for the rich, handouts for the poor," it seems highly unlikely.

We need a National Sales Tax---but NOT a VAT (Value added tax)(like England has). No income tax at all. Only a tax on what you buy! That would level the tax "playing field". Don't want to pay tax??? Don't buy anything! Can't afford a yacht? You won't have to pay the taxes that someone who CAN afford a yacht would pay!

However, do you think the CPA's in this country would let that happen???? Never! It would put them out of work! They lobby the government, too!
