Your civil was in Britain was still going on full-force 20 years ago, in Ulster, and you haveen't heard the last of the Scots yet, who have your oil. And how many royalists would still fight for the crown, against republicans?

Okay...Britain used to be our landlords. During the War of Seccesion their leanings were toward the Confederacy. And now a British citizen tells us we need to model ourselves after his country and expounds on Britains vast accomplishments in the areas of human and civil rights. Weare still wrapped up in our civil war and can't let it go? Ok, well Britain is still clinging to the Empire in a lot of ways methinks. Refusal to let their only remaining conquest self govern ( that would be Ireland) and holding it with military force seems a bit contradictary to the OP's position on OUR domestic affairs. Is it just me or am I missing something here? The South layed down their arms. Sin Fein, The IRA and a whole slew of splinter groups are waging war daily on BRITISH soil, and the religious, and racial tension in the UK is rampant. And Britain is judging us!? Ok we have groups here like the KKK and skinheads but compared to Sin Fein and the IRA they are just bufoons and nobody gives them a lot of recognition. They hide in their "compounds" and run their mouths to each other. Thats a far cry from exporting war to another shore.....IMHO

Ah, another literalist unable to interpret mild hyperbole in everyday speech

I read a LOT of news. Much of it from UK sources.

Many of your countrymen are quite unhappy about the cams amongst other ridiculousness your gov't is imposing.

You're not have the clever troll you think you are, and you're not above it all, as you seem to think.

Must be boring on the Blighty hosted political forums eh?

Default God bless(ed) America

The general opinion of the US in the UK is of a friendly neighbour, similar in some ways but different in others. You're still a young country, you have issues but who doesn't? I'd rather visit the US than China anyday. Good luck

The civil war was fought over "states rights". How does that relate to this election?

This election is about a candidate with no qualifications (many not even be a natural born citizen, and has yet to show proof), who is a Marxist/Socialist bent on forcing that ideology on us through various government programs to extract money from those who earn, to give to those who don't, in a misguided effort to attempt to "equalize" every one's status. He has spent his life working to that end in various capacities on a local level, even threatening banks with the force of law to coerce them into making loans to people who didn't have the means to repay them (using the provisions of the CRA).

He will force us to conform to radical energy conservation measures by punishing "excessive usage" through "spiking energy prices" for this usage, even though America does not have a shortage of energy; we have a shortage of production, which has been caused by excessive government regulation. He has proposed more of this regulation through what is called Cap and Trade legislation, further crippling the U.S. economy and energy production and independence.

He believes in "black liberation theology", and to that extent, is a racist. He was raised as a Muslim, and still has strong ties to Muslims and to Islam (though he doesn't admit it, but the links have been turned up in recent months).

The other candidate is more traditional. He is a Veteran of the U.S. armed services, a former P.O.W., and has spent most of his life serving his country, most notably in the U.S. Senate. He is clearly a capitalist, a believer in America, American ingenuity, rugged individualism, liberty, and the ideas that were held by the founders of this country. He does not apologize for America. He knows that America is still the best hope of the World.

That is what this election is about. The choice is clear. Capitalism or Socialism? It's that simple.

I know where I stand.
Yeah, you stand with the rest of those nuts who are too stupid, racist or ignorant to realize how wrong they have it. You are clearly intolerant of anyone who isn't a white christian, and you're not very well educated on economic policies. McCain's proposal of buying up loans is the most Communistic proposal in American history. Obama is clearly an AMERICAN BORN CITIZEN (the certificate was verified) and you're CLEARLY A RACIST. Also, you know nothing about energy policies. It would be nice if any of your points actually made sense, but sadly they do not. And a GOP candidate clearly does not believe in Liberty unless his name is Ron Paul...there is no liberty with laws like the PATRIOT ACT.

Perhaps it is because Americans are not completely comfortable with Marxism or wealth sharing.

I admit America may just be too large to be controlled under one government, the UK is only a bit larger than Minnesota...
