So you disagree with Country trying to care for us? Republicans would give the money to the top in the hope that this will stimulate the Economy and help us by having these places run well. Obama wants to give us the chance to have a few dollars in our pocket to spend where we wish.

Drinking and driving being the #1 cause of deaths in the U.S. is always the cry of you pro-NRA bozos who stand behind the rest of the idiots who patronize that club of rednecks. Also, I'm not "hot around the collar" as you say. Just pointing out the stupidity of some people, mostly uneducated, who post here.
Well not to mention the drunk driving deaths only, but also all the people who die from alcohol related heart attacks, liver disease, diabetes, etc. And all the fatal other accidents that occur while drinking. And all the spousal or child abuse while boozed up. Etc.

There again it comes down to some common sense and education.

What i have noticed is bad people don't follow rules. If a bad guy breaks in my home, even if I dial 911, I'd be lucky, very lucky, if any police got here in less than 10 minutes.

If one goes back and reads what the founding fathers wrote about the bill of rights, you will find that part of the reason for the public to own weapons is a check and balance against tyrannical government.

Thanks for seeing the light!! "this country is going down the drain." You are right it is and has been. So what are we to do if it keeps going that way??

Example: You and your family go away for the weekend. You come back home late sunday night. Put the key in the door and open. Only to find all your copper water pipes gone!! RIPPED OUT OF THE WALLS! Now ur scared you hear someone coming down the steps from your upstairs. By the time you reach for your cell phone to call the police, the guy is coming after you with a knife. What do you do??? Let the guy have his way with your kids and your wife?? Or pull out that gun I was telling you to buy??

Think real hard Mr. Navy. Real hard!! It's already been happing all over. So far people have been luckly not to of been home. Time will change all that as times get harder. And people will do anything to put food on the table.

Just something to think about. I know I do!!

FWIW, cancer and heart disease are by far the biggest causes of death in the US.

Cars do kill more people than guns in the US--about 40k vs 30k--but just ~15k of those auto deaths are alcohol related. So guns (via suicides, assaults, and accidents) kill roughly double as many people as drunk drivers.

I'd agree with you that both cars and guns are big public health problems.

Default Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact

WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office, perhaps reversing Bush administration policies on stem cell research and domestic drilling for oil and natural gas.

John Podesta, Obama's transition chief, said Sunday Obama is reviewing President Bush's executive orders on those issues and others as he works to undo policies enacted during eight years of Republican rule. He said the president can use such orders to move quickly on his own.

"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change.

Now that don't sound very good!! If he can pass any law he wants without "waiting for congressional action" what dose that say about this whole topic?? I'd have to say we will see him try to do the same with gun right's down the road!!

Every Wal-Mart in my area sells guns, they're in the sporting goods section, right next to the treadmills.
