Ok, this thread is going to get some angry responses but hear me out before you attack..

Why do countries no longer colonize? It seems that the colonizing that went on over the last 500 years has led to bigger stronger countries, better quality of life, etc.

The reason.. political correctness. Everyone with an ounce of common sense knows that Zaire is going to stay Zaire forever. The best thing for that country is to be colonized by a modern civilization.

So here is how I think all modern and civilized countries can save the world..

First, hold a roundtable. Invite all the countries that have basic human rights in their countries. Those rights include the following...

Freedom of Speech
Freedom of the Press
a DEMOCRACY
.. and the other basic human rights most civilized countries enjoy.

These countries at the roundtable would divide up the countries that fail to provide these basic rights to their citizens. Then all the civilized countries would invade these other countries overthrowing dictators and overtaking govts (I know this sounds cruel to all you liberals and isolationists, but this global economy is what it is today because of colonization)

Once these countries no longer have their dictators, we step in and provide education. Education on how to build a democracy, how to treat common diseases.. basic education, etc.

They then have 2 years to raise their standards to provide basic human rights to their citizens. After 2 years, if they have setup a democracy and basic human rights are protected than they remain an independant country joining the 21st century. Their people will be smarter, healthier, and more free because of it. If they fail to meet those standards then the country will be given to the civilized country to colonize.

All the remaining countries can then agree on the following things..

We are all different.. the US doesn't want to be like France and vice versa
We all have our own cultures and identities
We all disagree on religion, politics, music, entertainment, etc.
But and here is the key.. we can all live together in peace and harmony. Why? B/c there are no dictators. There are no people without food and basic medicine. Everyone has the right to be as successful as they want or as unsuccessful as they want. It is this right that makes us human. There are no religions promoting war and destruction of other religions. Those nations don't meet the human rights standards and would taken out.

I don't want Asia to be western. I don't want the middle east to be european. We are all different and that is ok. But to allow children in Zaire to die of easily curable diseases while we are creating artificial hearts overseas is an absolute joke.

The isolationists say.. "Oh, it's their culture.. leave them alone." Tell that to the little boy who died in Sudan today of the chicken pox. We did nothing to earn the right to be American. Just luck of the draw.. we were born in the greatest nation on this planet and a little boy was born to a life of absolute hell and misery in some 3rd world country in Africa.

And the isolationists will say it's not our responsibility to help them. I say, yes it is. These are the same people who probably sat in the back of the classroom in junior high and cowardly watched the mentally retarded kid get picked on by bullies. God has given all the civilized countries in this world a gift.. a gift of freedom, knowledge and strength. We have a moral obligation to make sure basic human rights are met across the world.

We haven't done this sooner because of political correctness. We look like war mongering bullies if we took over Sudan. Let me tell you right now the people of Sudan would rejoice from their roof tops if we took them over. Africa is a country chalked full of resources and chalked full of human rights violations but will never change because of isolationists, cowards, and our politically correct society.

I don't believe one country should prevail. We need diversity. Asia is different from the west and the west is different from Europe, etc. Each section of the world should have a hand in the roundtable.

The first few years would be tough.. many wars.. many lives lost. But that's how we got here today. Every 3rd world nation would be better for it in the end. The nations left would all have democracies and the people would all have basic human rights and freedoms.

We have stopped evolution in it's tracks because of political correctness. It's time to let mother nature get back on course. We have to grow some kahunas and say enough is enough with 3rd world countries and atrocities like we saw with Burma recently, and we have to act on it.

Ok.. now the isolationists.. the socialists and the liberals can begin their rants.

If it takes a few trillion dollars just to keep a smallish nation of 28 million like Iraq from imploding after our intervention, just how much would the rest of your plan cost?

Not just us.. other civilized countries would be involved.. Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Australia, etc.

It's our moral obligation. "Our" being everyone that watches people in Africa die of hunger and curable diseases while sitting on their comfy couches on their big screen TV on the Discover Channel.

Not gonna happen. It's not realistic. Life can be rough for some folks. That's the way of the world. If you feel badly for them, join a charity.

123cop in all honesty I find some of what you say admirable but you have to realize that not everyone wants the basic things we cherish in the US for them. Different cultures put other things in higher regard than say freedom of speech or of the press. There are many nations that prosper but have totalatrian regimes ( Saudi Arabia for example). I have a friend from Dubai who praises his government which is ruled by shieks. He gets a free college education, free property, free healthcare and no taxes since the oil revenues pays for everything. What doesn't he have? Social liberties we have here but he doesn't mind. See the difference?
