I am wondering if any other states and local governments are in the midst of big spending increases, bond issues and tax increases.

Here in Nebraska which is a heavily-taxed state. Lincoln which is the 2nd largest city in the state just passed a 250 million dollar school bond issue several months ago, but they are ready to increase taxes again for sewers and a new jail which will cost almost 100 million dollars by the county.

If thats not it they plan on going to voters for a tax increase for a convention center, arena and also a new hotel which will be under Tax-increment financing which will put pressure to increase the mill levy once again to private basic services. The taxes on a 100,000 dollar house are 2,000 dollars

Its entertaining to go to the city council meetings here and despite all this tax and spending on special pet-projects, they are going to running a 9 million dollar general fun (not pet project) budget deficit next year which is suposedly going to increase to 20 million plus per year over the next 5 years. And considering the housing market, the next wave of housing valuation will probubly show huge home value declines in many older areas and also taxable sales are running millions of the dollars a month below expectations of sales.

I know the people who run the city of Denver also are ready to go to the ballot with a big tax increase for basic services. I know Denver had alot of outrage over the way the city handled the snow-storms this year which the city attributing to the age of the equipment and not having the resources.

Anywhere else in the midst of a huge local/state tax and spending binge
