I heard that recently, 3 states approved a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages. Why? They don't deserve to marry? I thought this was the "Land of the Free" I also read on Gallup that 56% of Americans disapprove of gay marriages and that 53% of teens disapprove of it too. It seems like the hostility towards homosexuals will continue, unfortanetly. And 48% of Americans believe that allowing them to marry would have a worse effect on society. And 38% would like to see acceptance towards homosexuality to decrease, while 28% would like it to be more and 34% say it's about right.

I hate to say it but you have a lot of branches of Christianity to blame.

Sadly, this nation is controlled by Christians-Catholics-Mormons..you get the picture. They all dislike gays and lesbians so therefore, gays and lesbians are looked down as sinful.

Aside from Islam and Christianity, I don't hear about many other religions that are this hostile or negative towards gay/lesbians.

It is kinda sad, you know? I have always believed in separation from Church and State. How Christianity manages to get around that blows my mind. I am for Churches paying taxes because I feel they do get involved with the government.

Not against Christianity but just some of their beliefs are not..very nice.

I would blame movies for negative attitudes towards homosexuality, not religion. As a matter of fact I find it quite ignorant to place the blame on religion. Watch a few recent movies and see how homosexuality is downplayed and usually the word "gay" is used offensively.

What you have said makes little sense. Take California, for example, where Democrats who overwhelmingly voted for Obama voted against same-sex marriage. Are you implying that a majority in Californians are Mormons and Christians?

No, but for sure the influence and whole 'morals' thing played in it.

Maybe because they think homosexuals are immoral and deviant? That is my guess.

If they had that much influence they would have persuaded Californians to vote Republican.

Nope. They put all their $$$$ towards a hate campaign against the LGBT community by funding adverts and mailers that were based on complete lies.

They aimed to raise the fear factor of the alleged "gay agenda" and built a campaign around the premise that "the gays" were out to sully the "sanctity of marriage", and "force children in Ca. public schools will be required to learn about gay marriage".

All of these are flat out lies.

The churches funded the bulk of the campaign from other states.

They did not do much of anything else funding wise for any Republican candidate within the state of Ca.

And besides the prop 8 vote was very close...not enough to change from blue to red.

Homosexuals are simply the target of choice for discrimination in America at the present time. There has always been a group that was discriminated against in US History, and gays are simply the current main target.

Previous and other current targets include but not limited to: Native Americans, African Americans, Irish, Jews, Catholics, Italians, Japanese, Chinese, women, latinos, muslims (another current target), obese people, mentally ill, physically disabled, industrial workers...... the list goes on.

But I think the question concerns why they feel that way.
