Don't you realize that all the people in other countries with lower numbers of obesity still have access to unhealthy food? The liberal solution to everything... BAN IT!
Certainly, the overwhelming weight of the evidence suggests that this is a problem. Having the government expand its consideration of this issue seems wise. The growing preponderance towards obesity suggests that we need to get around to figuring out what is happening and how to counter it.
Of course, we have to scale our responses to the problem, while not just trying to pound slimness into skulls. Otherwise, as another poster observed, our efforts will go to waist.
The snack and fast food industries will probably belt any politician who supports such an effort and identifies him or herself as a suspender of the freedom to be gluttonous. That will lead many of them to steer wide of such a policy.
Still, it would be sweet if Obama and Congress could see a method to work out a reduction in obesity, before our children become diabetic, en mass. Perhaps Phil Gramm could help, or we could take a lesson from the legislation passed by the Japanese Diet or the government in Hungary.
Either weigh, it is clear that the fat is in the fire.
Good. Drop the Food Stamp program immediately and watch the fatsos melt away. Imagine if "the poor" actually had to buy their own food with their own money...the processed microwaveable crap in a box, premium cuts of fatty meat, and bags of nacho chips will probably be replaced with more sustaining and economical products like fresh vegetables, rice, and beans.
