Possibly one of the most cogent commentaries I have yet seen describing current events:

this Emperor has no clothes, it will all end in tears

Quote:
The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.
Quote:
We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. The best deserve a probationary opportunity to prove themselves, the worst should be in jail.
Quote:
Whatever the solution, teenage swooning sentimentality over a celebrity cult has no part in it. The most powerful nation on earth is confronting its worst economic crisis under the leadership of its most extremely liberal politician, who has virtually no experience of federal politics. That is not an opportunity but a catastrophe.

Well maybe we should ask Bush to come back and advise him. Wait, I forgot, Bush is pursuing bin Laden so he can keep his promise to the American people.

Bush left a giant turd on the table of The Oval Office and you cannot summon up the respect for the guy that is trying to make it right by surrounding himself with very intelligent people that he feels can help guide him through this disaster.

My personal "respect" for Obama is not the issue. I have not met him, so I have no personal feeling one way or the other anyway. What I do object to are his policies. Liberal fiscal policies have been proven time and time again to be disasterous for our economy.

Government intervention in the markets
Massive deficits
Overriding of free market principles

That's what got us into the current predicament, but that's just what Obama is now proposing will get us out. Utter Nonsense! And the point of the article is that hope and "good feelings" aren't a substitute for sound economic policy. The real world doesn't work like that.

Everyone repeat after me:

Performing the same action over and over again but expecting a different outcome is the definition of...

Yes, especially when in just the past three days he has...

Inaugural attended by 1,800,000 (largest crowd for any event in DC history) and not a single arrest or protest.
Completely reversed stupid policies on paranoid secrecy in government.
Ordered that all federal agencies suspend enforcement of "midnight executive orders" pending review.
Initiated sweeping ethics reforms in the executive branch.
Closed Guantanamo and restored rights to those held at Guantanamo per Geneva Convention.
Established a daily economic briefing.
Ended illegal torture practices.
Froze salaries for most of his staff.
Appointed distinguished special envoys to Israel/Palestine and Pakistan/Afghanistan.
Modernized the Whitehouse.gov web site and had it up and running at 12:01 PM on 1/20.
Overturnined Bush's veto on stem-cell research
Cracking down on lobbyists and lobbying policies
