I was doing some research on the topic of unemployment and I read that during the last two recessions (the Bush #1 Recession of the early 1990s and the Bush #2 Recession of 2001-2002 and the current Bush #2 Recession of 2007-?, the unemployment rate for white college educated men never got over 3.5%. The boom unemployment rate is usually about 2.5%, so according to these stats the recessions have had a limited impact on college educated white men, which I am.

Much of the current increase in unemployment is due to the huge decrease in the construction and manufacturing industries, which has limited impact on the college educated white people.

What the future will bring for us is unknown though.

I'm a white college educated female. I have a Masters.
I read somewhere that for a person with a MS the unemployment rate is something like 3% as well!

I blow the demographics all the time--Masters Degree, housewife for years, low income, white.

I guess you can't put much stock in 'figures?'

I'm really screwed. I'm a bi racial female with a B.S getting my MS.
So what side do I fall on? Just a question. Why would you post this?

You asked why would I post this: To make a point that even today the more eduction you have the less likely you will be unemployed. (Though I still know many college educated men and women who have been unemployed for a long time, but their chances are still better)

If you have a Masters degree your chances to find a job is even better. If you are not white your unemployment chances are higher even with a college degree.

You'll still be better off than the black guy next to you unless the employer is heavily pushing for better diversity numbers. And diversity numbers in of itself is another wonderful topic of discussion...

Type in Google "unemployment rate college graduates" or go to the BLS website for many articles on the topic.
