Can Americans have a civil discourse?

Writing comments such as "the internet is a dream come true for insecure and passive aggressive people" is surely a way to stir up the pot and the comment is less than civil. Interesting that it appears on a thread regarding whether it is possible to have a civil discourse. Instead of trying to "fix" others maybe we should all look at ourselves. Otherwise there is no chance for civility.

I stand by my comment; I know it to be true.
I certainly do not think of *everyone* who posts on this forum that way.
It's not like I am looking for every thread to be profound or serious or nicey-nice. I am not a heavy-duty intellectual.
But to me some of the drive-by posts are awfully adolescent.
If that's the way it's going to be, fine. But I did think the OP had a point.
