Dybul, a specialist in infectious diseases whose title is now U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, concurs.

"It's the largest international health initiative in history for a single disease," he says. "In any other circumstances, he (Bush) would be getting a Nobel prize."

Sweetness Mzolisa, overflowing with energy and enthusiasm, puts it more simply.

"He's got heart," she declares. "He cares about people."

AIDS battle burnishes Bush's legacy in Africa - Africa - msnbc.com

Let's see if the knee jerk Bush haters can be intellectually honest and give him credit for helping Africa fight AIDS. I bet it will be tough for them to get beyond their deep seated vitriole, but let's see.

I'm not a bush lover but it will be real interesting to see how this goes.

Hate blinds people to any and all other opinions on the subject of the hate. And the more they hate something the "blinder" they get.

Bush II has done some good and quite a lot of bad in my opinion....just so you know where I'm coming from.

Would you give a serial rapist credit for donating $50 to cancer research?

I'd love to do an experiment. Take a person who has absolute hatred for GW Bush. Sit them down and take their blood pressure. Wait 5 to 10 minutes. Just as you begin to take their blood pressure again, turn on a TV with a video of GW Bush giving a press conference.

Yes I would. Why would you not judge each act by it's merit ? If you only look at the bad someone has done in their life and not give them the credit for the good, thats a pretty warped view of a persons value.

Obviously you cite an extreme example...but to me the principle is the same. Let's say you have an insolent child who is just a terror for a few years. All of a sudden one day he makes you a birthday card and say's he loves you. So do you not value that positive action (card) due to all his horrible actions prior to that ?

So you compare the President with a "serial rapist?" That tells me enough about your thought process and confirms my suspicions.

First of all, you should really lay off the 'vitriolic Bush haters' crap... We put up with 8+ years of non-stop hatred against Clinton - Bush had it easy compared to that - Bush wasn't impeached on trumped-up partisan charges.

Having said that, I give Bush credit for fighting Aids in Africa... that was a humanitarian thing to do...

I'm a vitriolic Bush hater. And yes, I give Bush credit for his leadership on the worldwide AIDS crisis. It's about the only good thing he's done the last 8 years.

But being a vitriolic Bush hater I do have to ding him (and it's a big ding) for requiring that 1/3 of his foreign AIDS prevention money be used exclusively for abstinence-only-until-marriage programs. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot - all studies on the issue show those types of programs are not effective at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
