Read the fine print!

Office of the Speaker

Now I know I'm being conned.

Oh, the reason we had a depression all through the 30s is Roosevelt didn't understand that he couldn't keep Hoover's sky high tax rates and the Smoot-Hawley trade war and have an economic recovery. He tried to slow government spending in 1936 resulting in a big dip in GDP and employment because the economy wasn't fixed and the continual big spending was just a poor excuse for a band aid. If I'm filling a bucket with a hose and it never seems to get any fuller then the first time I turn the flow of water down just a little the level visibly drops I should assume I need a bigger hose? Or, my bucket doesn't hold water? Liberal answer, get a bigger hose. Conservative answer, fix the bucket.

He's not helping his cause, if anything he's contributing to the fear this economy's already causing people. His support for this package is slipping in the polls, yet he consistently comes out looking to scare people into supporting it.

Isn't this the same crap the liberals were using against George Bush with his war on terror? Back in May he accused McCain and Bush of fear mongering, yet isn't he doing the exact same thing here??????

Change??? Please.....

How hypocrital can the Neocons possibly be? These are the same buttwipes who have been claiming for 8 years that they had to burn the Constitution, violate the Geneva Convention and the UCMJ because we were in so much danger from a bunch of goatherders a thousand miles away. Osama Bin Laden has made it real clear his objective is getting the American Military bases out of his homeland, Saudi Arabia. So his situation is much like that of Ho Chi Minh a few years back, and the Pentagon has managed to let a bunch of draft-dodging ideologues put us back in the same situation once again. If you want to peddle fear, these criminals wrote the book.

This trend has been going on now for a while. Why the change in rhetoric? Is this the "change" he was talking about? That he would start using "republican fear tactics" (as so eloquently labeled by our friends to the left) when he became President?

Did someone just now explain to him what was going on?

Its either...A) he is using the republican tactics (that were bashed by the left) to get the american people to go along with him or B) he was too dumb to know what was happening a few months ago.
He did sit in that church for 20 years without noticing the people around him were racists.

You people really do listen to freaks such as Rush Limpaw to get your propaganda. As for Obama being dumb, that is so reaching after we just got rid of a genuine idiot squatting in the White House and replaced him with a Constitutional Scholar. If President Obama did not know something, it was just how digusting, piggish and self serving the Republicans in Congress can be. Now that he is getting a taste of it, he will beat these greedy idiots at their own game.
A constitutional scholar who tried to enter the White House through a window he thought was a door. Almost a trillion in political payola and the Republicans are self-serving?

As for that war, had Carter done his job and installed a new government in Iran like his National Security Advisor was practically begging him to do while their was an opportunity, we could have avoided four wars. He did the easy thing by allowing a totalitarian Islamo-fascist theocracy to come to power. Millions died because he lacked the Kahunas to do what was needed. Now instead of a military ally we have a terrorist nation Hell-bent on building nuclear weapons. No reason to believe we won't be blackmailed with them some day.

The current misery index is 7.29%. When Carter was president it was 21%, or about three times what we have today. If your too young to have lived through those days, this is what America thought about it.

When given an opportunity to go back to Carternomics in 1984, this is what America had to say.

Notice the RW never tells them to actually look at the proposed packages, or even at job loss data or market news.
As though we were incapable of independent reasoning. That would be convienient for you, but we know it isn't true. The simple facts are, after all the favorable press and attempted deception of the American taxpayers, we still get it. Their is little in the bill that could reasonably be considered anything that would cause employment to grow any time soon. It's pork and slush funds for the friends of the Democrats.

Well, as usual things seem to be deteriorating at an exponential rate on this thread. Why is it so impossible for us to just respectfully debate without throwing in wise cracks and camouflaged personal attacks? Besides, this thread is now moot anyway. Fear rhetoric or not, the stimulus passed late last night. So instead of arguing about how Obama tried to get it passed, let's talk about the best way it could be utilized now that it has become a reality.
