Glenn Beck is beating Wolf Blitzer in his 5PM timeslot so I don't see him going back to CNN.

Last Friday, for example, Beck had 1.962 million viewers (Fox News), Blitzer (CNN) had 940,000 viewers and Chris Matthews (MSNBC) had 573,000 viewers. If you add Matthews' and Blitzer's viewers together they don't beat Beck.

Now if a lib makes the argument, "Well Beck has all of the conservatives and Blitzer and Matthews have to share the liberals" it just proves your point that there are more liberal TV news outlets.

(sigh)

Another citizen who's not with the program.

This isn't something involving "choice". It's a GOVERNMENT PROGRAM. The only thing government can do (any government) is make laws, punish people who don't obey, and force people to do things they wouldn't have done without the law making them.

Beck won't have the option of not "going back to CNN". Government REQUIRES that the libs on CNN be "balanced". So Beck will do it whether he likes it or not.

Good news is, such a policy will make Beck's broadcasts even more interesting.

Got it now?

I am neither republican nor democrat and am confident that talks about a Fairness Doctrine will remain... just talks. Life is what it is. There is no way to monitor or enforce this and at the end it will cripple the media to the point that it would become irrelevant.

Nope, none of them have not.

Too hard for anyone to "chime in". Whenever anyone points out that President Obama, and anyone else in his administration is asked about the FN the reply is always the same; "he does NOT support a return to the FN".

Of course just today a right wing source (NY Post or Fox probably) pointed out that "Obama's statement that he does not support a return to the FN is his first statement on it since the last time that he said he doesn't support it".

To which reasonable, thinking people can only reply FTW?

I guess none of them can not understand that!

If the OP had been alive back when the FN was in place he/she would have realized that the way it operated was NOTHING AT ALL LIKE what he described.

Oh get real! Talking heads are a dime a dozen. There isn't any compulsory gas bag program in the US, and I doubt there's one on the horizon.

If you remember back when we had the Fairness Doctrine, it was not applied to things that were obvious. I mean, if a person stated that the earth was round there was little impetus to invite someone from the Flat Earth Society on.
So if someone says the Bush administration should be brought up on war crimes, there would be no reason to refute that.

Most people in this country want to be rid of illegal aliens, left and right together. So if someone like Nepolitano or Richardson made a favorable comment about them there would always be someone to present the more popular opposing view. That would probably have exposed more people to the E-Verify check that should have been included in the stimulus bill.

The Equal Time Amendment would help to prevent corporations from buying off our politicians and influencing the media they own to sway public opinion in order to line their pockets, like the non-existent 'clean' coal industry tries to do - like TBone Pickens was attempting.

The doctrine applied only when there was perceived to be many sides to an issue, and then there were guests on to present the multiple points of view.

I am liberal, and was mad as heck when the media was not blaming Congress and the Presidents, of BOTH parties for the financial fiasco that we now find ourselve in - yet if they had kept the laws that were put into place after the Great Depression instead of chipping away at them, there would be not way so many people would be suffering so much. It is only lately that I am hearing Glass-Steagal mentioned.

What is killing us is not the greed of financial people - do we blame birds for flying? We are being killed because our political system dropped the ball and got rid of protective legislation. Thank you, Alan 'the market will adjust and cure all' Greenspan.

So I am all for more information than less, and those who only watch one type of media, like Hannity or Rush will at least be AWARE that there is another side.

My friend is a Hannity watcher and it is amazing how little she knows of the truth. She actually thought Terri Schiavo had a chance at a normal life, did not know that her brain was rotted away.
Talk about the media brain washing people!

TERRI SCHIAVO?----I believe that is more of a Vatican/Catholic thing...as my priest told me - "Thou shalt not kill, what part of that don't you understand?"...but that is for a whole new topic....

I agree with you about the markets and both sides of the aisle - I have been saying that the politicians are too dumb to keep pace with the financial minds on Wall Street --- watching the senate and the house hold these meeting with Big Ben, Paulson, the CEO's - even the whistle blower on Madoff--- it is an eye opener to see that the politicains have NO IDEA what they are taking about---watch these same fools go on MSNBC and it is very clear wafter th efirst question that they really don;t know anything about the markets - even if they do they are so detached from reality it is scary....smart regualtion needs to be enacted---sadly the only smart regualtion will come for the Wall street folks----how do you burglar proof a house? - ask a burglar...
