JERUSALEM - The United States plans to pledge more than $900 million to help rebuild Gaza after Israel's invasion and strengthen the Western-backed Palestinian Authority, a U.S. official said on Monday.
The money will be channeled through U.N. and other bodies and will not be distributed via the militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to make the announcement next week at a Gaza donors conference in Egypt.
To anyone who's been watching CNN for the past few months, seen all the money spent and all the money wiped out, that isn't even a lot of money anymore.
Right now, the USA shouldn't be worrying about Gaza. The US should work to keep their country from collapsing.
I'd say that's pretty damn stupid of us here in the USA...much like someone deep in debt that is stupid enough to give money to a friend to take a vacation to Germany.
I think this is a pretty smart idea, and I see what the plan is. For too long Hamas has been allowed to sell itself as a necessity to help the impoverished and underprivileged in Gaza building hospitals and schools. If we, the West, were to completely take over the responsibility of building and maintaining Gaza to a reasonable standard of living then Hamas' support would quickly dry up.
