For years now I have been reading about the LED light bulbs and wondering when the will come out. Well Walmart seems to have rushed them to market and are now selling them for almost 6 dollars a bulb. Other than the fact the the price is ridiculous from what I have been told they have a 50% failure rate. I wonder can you return a light bulb?
I doubt they were rushed to market. You get what you pay for.
I would lay odds that they were carefully planned to be cheaper than real bulbs sold by any WM competitors and designed to burn out faster so they have to be replaced more often. It's called "planned obsolescence". Vance Packard wrote a book about it back in the 60s called "The Waste Makers".

Probably not. I have been noticing some of the stop lights are missing a few lit LEDs too. I thiought LEDs were not supposed to "burn out".
I use the cf daylight bulbs everywhere. They last, aren't hot and have this bright clear light which doesn't give me a headache. LED's would be good eventually but for now I like my almost ott lights. There is one sunlight bulb per room too. They even work for good plant lights. When LED's get reliable and cheap then I'll look into them.
Candles create carbon exhaust and are also made with crude oil.
