Last week it was Obama's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, who said that the Democrats should not let a good crisis go to waste, but should do things that the people hadn't let them do earlier.
Then yesterday, his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the same thing, during a trip to Russia.
Now Obama himself is joining the chorus.
Coincidence?
The American people have long rejected things like nationalized health care and other socialistic programs taken over by government. But the Democrats have kept trying to impose them anyway, through thick and thin. Now they see an opportunity, where they might succeed in legislating against the will of the people.
Of course, the difference between pushing an agenda during times of calm, and pushing it during a crisis, is that during a crisis, people are scared, desperate, and more willing to accept anything the government throws at them, in hopes it will somehow help. This is exactly what the Democrats have been waiting for.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama on Saturday challenged his country to see its hard times as a chance to "discover great opportunity in the midst of great crisis."

If you are one of the right-wing who still thinks Obama is a "socialist" and has some hidden "socialist" agenda, I think you might want to consider widening your base of sources. Because the claim is utterly absurd. Of course, if you confine yourself only to extremist right-wing sources, rather than searching for a balanced assessment, you will find all kinds of nutty support for that claim. Seriously, people.
"I'm concerned that if the government steps in it will eventually push out the private health care plans millions of Americans enjoy today," Blunt said. "This could cause your employer to simply stop offering coverage, hoping the government will pick up the slack."
Boy o boy do I ever agree with Congressman Blunt on this subject. Why should employers provide when the government will do so? This is so much like the old conservative saying that when the other half that is paying income taxes tires of doing so and stops because they see the group that has been sponging all this time who provides the money? There is no doubt in my mind that private health insurance will be a thing of the past by the end of Obama's term and how far from socialized medicine does that leave us?
They are certainly not wasting this crisis, just as Rahm said they couldn't afford to do.

I would like to see you explain what is wrong with Congressman Blunt's fear about health insurance. Somehow this old conservative just can't see past what he says. HELP!!

Congressman Blunt's "fear" is that the campaign contributions he received from those private health insurance companies will no longer be forthcoming if he doesn't speak out on their behalf. Even if, in order to do so, he must contribute to the perpetuation of Republican fear-baiting rhetoric. There's no indication that Obama wants to eliminate private health insurance.

It seems to me that the only way that could happen is if the government is so much more effective and efficient at providing access to health insurance than the private sector is, that people will simply abandon private sector insurance altogether. I guess that's what the right-wing must be afraid of...
The symptoms and effects of SourGrapeitis continue to prevail in a few caves around the nation. There isn't a plan yet, and it is already socialist. Nice! Neocons aren't done yet.
