According to this article, the Queen put her arm behind Michelle Obama's back first and then Michelle followed the lead.
According to your rulebook, what is one supposed to do when the Queen makes the first move? Snub the Queen?
Absolutely not. Perish the very thought of such.
After all she IS the Queen.
If she wishes for you to tickle her fancy, you, as the guest of Her Royal Majesty, must comply or be considered an insuperable boor.
Michelle acted not only properly, but admirably, in the view of the protocol geeks, and discharged her duties capably in keeping with her position as First Lady Of The United States Of America. Three Cheers for Our Lady and God Save The Queen.
I've read all the way through the thread to here, and I've still found a few things that haven't been addressed:

Sounds more like the UK than the US!

BUT PALIN DID CALL soccer Moms "pitbulls(viscious ugly dogs) with lipstick"......and the poor slobbering worshipping and incredibly stupid soccer mom's thought it was a compliment!!!
Actually, it was hockey moms Palin was referring to.
Thank you, you saved me the lab fee's. You just dissected the little brain of the typical NeoCon...
So, what is so terrible about a free-market economy with minimum taxation and government economic regulation; strict limits on government-provided social-welfare programs; and a strong military? I am highly suspicious of international institutions, such as the UN and the World Court, whose authority could intrude upon American sovereignty or limit the country's freedom to act in its own interests. Anymore than we intrude on others? I'm not as educated as you or a lot of you posters,
so when all can truly understand what it feels like to be free, & see the
many faces of war & why they fought like I see everyday at the VA hospital where I work, then maybe some of you will have a better understanding of the Freedom you have. I especially like to emphasize
this point to the self rightous sanctimonious little elitest pi$$pots of entitlement who didn't have to lift a finger to be so fortunate to have such freedom & liberty
I would rather Die Standing up for Our Flag, Country, Our Constitution,
Our Liberty than live on my knees in submission under Marxist-Socialist Rule, or Oligarchy.
I pray for the day when we as Americans can embrace the Constitutional Moderate approach. Ben Frankin was asked, "Mr Franklin, what kind of government do we have? He responded "A Republic, if you can keep it."
Didn't anyone at the White House tell Michelle Obama that you are not suppose to touch the Queen of England unless it is a formal handshake? She had the nerve to put her arm around her. What do you make of this?
The world has become a very casual place, but there are times when you must observe proper etiquette. There are simply things you do not do. Next thing you know Michelle will be slapping the pope on the back and asking him "Hey Bennie, what up????"
Sorry. I am not a stickler when it comes to most things but good lord, she is the Queen of England for gosh sakes. Has Michelle no class at all?
I love Barack and Michelle, but I am a little embarrassed by this faux pas.

Exactly! And I agree 100%.
Quite obvious that the original poster would have no idea how to behave with important people if the rules suddenly changed!

Really I don't care -- I know there would be total outrage had Mrs. Bush done something like this, there is a big double standard, but it wouldn't bother me for either Laura Bush or Michelle Obama to make a mistake and treat the queen like anyone else.
You wish. Simply fun to make comments about he and meeeechelle as it works up obamamaniacs.
He is doing so many things wrong:
- Tax cheats in his admin
- Overspending and debt
- Gun control
- His speeches / rhetoric aren't matching up with his actions
- Dissing the military
- Indecisive
- No clear foreign policy / appears weak
- His spendulus has yet to help the economy
- on and on and on and on......and it has only been a little over two months
Gee - someone is enacting a philosophy that is different than yours.
They must be failing.
The economy's turning around, we are rebuilding relationships across the world that were shattered the past eight years, we are utilizing the military force wisely....
Complex solutions to complex problems leave those accustomed to black-and-white solutions wanting, but good things are happening.

I actually wouldn't even notice that it was something that shouldn't be done, democrat or republican. Seems yet another silly thing to get all up in arms about.
